To quote Lou Piniella...

I have seen enough.

Do the Reds know what they have with Matt Belisle? I believe they do. Can the same be said of Phil Dumatrait? Why no, it can't.

Did the Reds demote B. Livingston after a very good start? Yes, indeed. Did they recall him? Yup. Is he still referred to as a "spot'' starter? Right again.

Did they wait a month too long to promote Homer Bailey? Uh-huh. Did they say they didnt want Bailey in the majors until they were certain he would stick? Did they say that because they were concerned for his psyche, even though Bailey is quite possibly the most cocky, er, confident kid I've ever seen here?

Did they then demote Bailey after a very good start?

Most definitely.

Have we seen enough of M. Stanton? We all could agree in the affirmative.
Do we know what Joey Votto can do? Not up here, we don't.

When the new blood is brought up, finally, and given a chance, has it proved worthy? Why yes, Messrs. Livingston, Keppinger, Hopper, Gosling and Bailey, I believe it has.

The non-waiver trade deadline is six days away. We'd like to think that some of this stuff will be sorted out by then. Given that the Make The Playoffs portion of the program has passed, it'd be good if the Reds used the rest of this year to see more clearly what they might have for next year. Why wait until March?

Is there a problem with Votto and/or Dumatrait? Could we see them before Sept. 1?
Why is this stuff so hard?

Great, bring up all the young kids. Let's make it the Cincinnati Bats and torpedo the Reds name the rest of the season. Keeping with that, are the Louisville triple "A" prices for games coming north? Either way, I am not paying top dollar, major league price for the crap that is being served up at the yard. Get your head out of your arse Castellini and make this team major league caliber or expect more crowds of 18,000 the rest of the way out. I am not talking about a complete firesale and dumping of salary. I am talking about weathering the season, keep the major leaguers (Griffey, Dunn, Phillips, etc) you have and add to them. Get me some freakin' pitching for gawds sake.

At least I have the option of seeing the game on TV and then turning it off and ignoring them from the comforts of my home, as opposed to downtown. Don't think I am not the only one feeling this way.

i agree with pd on this one. running the same bums out there proves nothing. he did forget to mention jay bruce. he should be up here when dunn is gone.

I almost turned off the TV Monday night when Stanton came in in the top of the 12th....and promptly gave up a 370 foot loud out to Craig Counsell....I'm sorry, but I said then, and I'll say it now, at this point, I'd rather lose with a guy like Jared Burton on the mound than Terry "Fat Tub of Goo" Stanton.

I'm tired of watching Dunn also, if you can get anything for him, trade him now. He's not worth the 13 mil for next year. For that matter, if you can get anything of value for Hatteberg, Weathers, or Conine, Krivsky has to pull the trigger.

Yeah, I'm tired of Dunn. That 2 run homer in the 8th was disgusting. I'd rather see Freel hustle us out of innings and leadoff with a .300 OBP.

Bailey's "good start": 28.2 IP, 29 H, 15/21 K/BB, 6.99 ERA, 1.77 WHIP.

That's called getting the crap beaten out of you. Bailey should have been left to develop in AAA all season, instead of shuttled up way too early to try and salvage a complete unmitigated disaster like the '07 Reds.

Hey....

I'm all for bringing up the young guys. Get rid of the non-performing vets and bring up the young guys.

If they do...... I expect a two year moratorium on any media type griping (or agreeing with a fan) about the 100+ losses that the team will suffer.

Any takers?

Don't have time, or desire, to make comment on all parts of statement.

However, I would remind you, this time last year, many were calling for DFA for Weathers. "Over the hill," I believe. Same for Griffey, etc.

Make your moves, but be VERY patient in doing so. This season is a bust as far as playoffs is concerned, but not as far as making the team better for the future. There are some very important parts in place. I would not move Weathers, for example, for anything. The number one problem for this team IS the pen. He is the ONLY consistent positive part. Lets trade him for someone better-ya, sure. Dunn is only 27! Good Lord. Lets trade him for another 25 year old youngster with promise! While the new guy is developing, he can probably hit 40 HR, drive in 100 RBI, walk 100 times, score 100 runs-no problem!

Lots of things to consider-no knee jerk fire sale. I personally believe what this team needs more than anything is stability-something we have not had for 7 or 8 years. We have tried everything else, lets try that for awhile, not changes everytime the fans get restless.

I'm not upset that Bailey was brought up and then sent back down. He's a confident kid. Maybe getting pounded in the big leagues is the only way he'll figure out he needs more than just a fastball.

Look I'm gonna take the minoriy opinion on the Homer Bailey situation.
I watch him and I see a guy who has a chance to be good in the future. But I also see a guy who isn't ready to be a starter in the major leagues.
Really the minors are the best place for hin now to improve and tighten his skills.

Just a question - why is Hatteberg "trade bait / first to go"? Who else on the team >> good at bats every time, over .300 average, fields like a pro and "plays the game right". He's old??

Hatte's getting near his time I think but he's got a while left to play and I say we ride that gravy train til it's empty.

Paul--

You wrote an article today about how the Reds HAVE to trade Dunn--almost everything you wrote in that article could be said of Griffey:

1. He's too expensive for the Reds.
2. He'll be more valuable as a DH in the AL.
3. The money freed up could be used to get more affordable, statistically valuable players--especially pitchers

The Reds have plenty of capable outfielders who could fill both Griffey and Dunn's position defensively...for far less money.

Make the smart move--trade Dunn and Griffey NOW, and use that cash to beef up the pitching staff.

I've been singing this song for 2 years..

Just Sayin'!
