Everybody's Records (Disc 2)

There are a few places I'd miss entirely if/when I left this place. I was reminded of that yesterday, when I stopped by Everybody's, in Pleasant Ridge, and picked up a few obscurities for my collection. In an age when independent record stores are disappearing like 8-track tapes, Everybody's has held its own. It's because they almost always have something you want that no one else has. (It's also because while I was there, one of the guys slipped a little Southside Johnny on the store music system, just for me. I didn't even ask.)

I picked up 3 discs Saturday -- the new Steve Forbert, a collection of Southern beach music and a double-disc from the classic '67 concert, Monterey Pop. I'd never seen any of those discs anywhere else.

I've been told about Shake It Records in Northside. Even recommended it, sight unseen, to B. Arroyo. I'll get over there one of these days.

It got me to thinking of the places around here I'd miss if I weren't around... here's my short list, in no particular order... feel free to give me yours...

Everybody's Records
Molly Malone's (formerly the Dubliner) across the street
Stein-Mart at Rookwood (because I'm tight)
Joseph-Beth at Rookwood
Party Source
Mariemont (don't live there, just think it's what a 'burb should look like)
Ault Park
Hickory Woods Golf Course.

Gimme yours... live big, Jimi Hendrix

Paul,
Go out and rent the Directors Cut of the movie Monterey Pop. Has the complete Jimi and Otis performance, Al Kooper, Eletric Flag The Byrds, and Buffalo Springfield.
All of there performances are better than the Reds bullpen this year.

without a doubt... the place where my 6 brothers and sisters had so much fun - French Park. Sidebar, I meant to mention this to you when you got back from Ireland. Imagine, Frank McCourt (and possibly his brother Malachy) as your tour guide to all things Irish while your were there.

We have small children, so our list is very kid-friendly:

Sharon Woods Park (both for the playground outside and the really cool play area inside)

Aglamesis for ice cream, with a trip after to Blue Manatee bookstore

The butterfly shows at the Krohn--huge hit with our daughter

The Museum Center--where you could spend a day in the kids' museum and still not see everything!

And for the rare adult dinner out.. either Arnold's or Jean-Ro.. depending on the mood and budget..

I left Cincy 20 years ago for bigger and better. Still get back a couple of times per year to visit relatives. When I visit, here's where I go: Zip's in Mt. Lookout, Arthur's in Hyde Park, Alms Park (smaller and more scenic than Ault), Mount Adams, and Batsakes (without a doubt a world class men's hat shop that nobody in Cinti frequents).

By the way, GABP is the worst new retro park in America.

Having already left and actually being a Butler County resident when I was there I will offer a few from around that area...

Chester's Pizza
Jungle Jims
Montgomery Inn
Grand Finale

Yeah it's all about food with me...I miss Frisch's too.

Zip's in Mount Lookout

Arnolds

Germania Park on Kemper Road for the real Oktoberfest

Ditto on the Party Source

OTR on Opening Day - the best part of the parade is the hanging out in a
neighborhood no one would be in 364 other days of the year.

The view of the City at night when you start down the cut in the hill in NKY. The downtown looks about 10 times bigger than it really is and very impressive.

The City parks, Ault and Eden, especially. Do the people in the burbs even realize what a treasure these parks are?

Jungle Jims. That guy has vision.

Union Center, a beautiful building.

Nothing... of course I'm an outsider, so this whole "We're Cincy and we're the greatest" thing is mind boggling.

"We're Cincinnati, we're the greatest"...I've never heard anybody say that. Traditionally, Cincinnatians are the hardest on themselves. Sure, Cincinnati has a lot of its own warts but it truly is a great city (not the greatest, but it is a great city)

Nobody here said Cincinnati was the greatest. What are you reading?

Not surprising your mind is boggled.

To the critic who put down the mythical phrase: We're Cincinnati. We're the greatest.

As others have said--you are pathetic, as no one said that, so get your mutant head out of your *##...

By the way, WHAT is wrong, anyway, for loving our city?!

As a downtown worker, I'd really miss the burgers at Dink's. I'd also miss Zips burgers on the weekends. I really like good burgers.

1. The Ohio River
2. Findlay Market
3. Keller's IGA on Ludlow Ave.
4. The little clearing on Columbia Pkwy., when you're driving westbound and you can turn your head to your left and see downtown way in the distance.
5. The hills

Cincy skyline coming down the cut in the hill
the Root Beer Stand
undying love for terrible sports teams

Paul, not sure where you live but Anderson Twp Pub has the best wait staff around. I have put in a few hours there over the years and everybody there is great. Inexpensive and stiff cocktails.
Nice little patio outside.

The other treasure in Cincy are UC games at Nippert. Local people are such Big Ten homers it is silly. Great D1 football is played at Nippert.

Easy to pick:
- Xavier Basketball at Cintas
- The hype for the Crosstown Shootout
- Graeter's -- pick up a cooler full every Xmas to bring back to NC
- Skyline Chili (on Ludlow)
- Esquire Theater
- The View from Mount Adams
- Ault Park

DDow -- nice comment on the Keller IGA - very underrated independent grocer.
