Odell Thurman

Congratulations to Odell Thurman, who has been given a second chance on life. Cautious hope that it's all he needs. Would it be that we'll be writing and talking about him with the same voice we used with Josh Hamilton. Overcoming addiction requires more vigilance than anything he'll ever do in sports.

And this: Willie Anderson was right about Mike Brown. Anderson told Mark Curnutte that Brown deserves much credit for sticking with Thurman. I believe that. I've seen it with many other players here, starting with Stanley Wilson. Sometimes it works, as it did with Wilson, if only temporarily. Sometimes, it makes Brown look overly forgiving, almost naive. That's OK.

While mixing in a little social work doesnt always help the bottom line, it shows a side of the Bengals owner we don't see very often. Thurman needs to help himself now. Time to reward the compassion.

As much as fans seem to enjoy criticizing the Bengals front office at times the worst trait about Mike Brown is being loyal to a fault.
At the end of the day if that is the worst thing someone could say about me; well I'd take that. Unfortunately I have other faults as well, just like 95% of the population.
Congrats to Odell, he has earned it.

Except that it's the Bengals, I'm glad that Thurman gets another chance.

Hope it works.

I hope you talk about Odell the same way you all talked and hugged Josh hamilton. Or else you would be feeding into the whole Cincinnati media white double standard that has plagued this city for the last 60 years. If it's good for the goose(josh hamilton) then its good for the gander(Odell thurman). Fair is Fair.......It's time to show and prove Cincinnati....lets break that old stereotype mold about our city for nce. DO THE RIGHT THING....FOR ONCE....PLEASE

The Bengals need Odell about as much as he needs the paycheck. Two seasons are an eternity in the NFL however. What are the chances Odell can still make the big play?

Hey 9:36, how about Odell giving us a reason to feel that way, instead of making it a black vs. white issue. That issue has no place in this discussion, at this time. Don't assume it will. You know what happens 9:36, when one assumes. Or do you?

9:36 - Who in the world do you know that isn't hoping for Odell to succeed? I certainly hope he does. Mainly, I hope for a young man to have his life in order. And being a successful football player on my favorite team would be a huge bonus. I wish him well, and hope he does have his life turned around. And I haven't seen anything wishing any differently. I think some people just want to stir things up when there is nothing there.

time for 9:36 to go re-visit the apology thread. But just to be consistent, and do the "right thing" as 9:36 says, I will say as soon as we get this coming season over with, with Thurman hopefully making it thru unscathed a la Josh H, I hope the Bengal's unload him for whatever they can get, before he relapses, because just like Hamilton, Odell is a ticking time bomb now, and I hope our team isn't holding him when the bomb goes off. Is that consistent enough for you, 9:36???
Oh, and by the way, I hope neither Josh nor Odell ever relapses. But statistics tell me otherwise.

I could care less about the "young man getting is life squared away." I only care if he's gonna put serious pressure on the passer on Sundays.

I agree with 9:36, you people have been listening to your own voices for so long you cant see the forrest for the trees. It's just another example of why there is a greater need for "diversity" in the Cincinnati media. With all due respect, Cincinnati is a "white guy media town". White people in this town love to complain about one thing or the other. I wish we can get back to the days when we actually talked sports and not the white guy bitter game.

Geez, the race troll shows up and all you guys can do is feed him.

I'm an Odell fan and glad that he's getting a chance. I've heard he's a good guy (and appreciative that he's got an opp. to play at the pro level)...with a problem. Didn't really cost the Bengal's anything though to stick with him did it? I mean monetarily?

I like the fact that the Bengals are playing hard ball with Chad. It puts them in a better negotiating stance for a better trade deal if one is available. It also puts Chad on notice if a good trade deal isn't available.

What's the rest of the story??
Odell - 2 year suspension for drinking beer & smoking weed???
He wasn't waving a guy in anyone's face (see C. Henry). He wasn't throwing money around a strip club and someone got shot (ala Pacman).
Just chilling and cool but a 2 year suspension.

What's the real reason? What did I miss?

7:23 - There were reports last year (maybe May or June timeframe) when Goodell was considering Odell's reinstatement that not long after he'd sat down with the Commissioner to make his appeal for how deserving he was to be back in the NFL's good graces again he screwed it all up. The reports say he was at a party in Georgia hitting on someone else's lady friend. The boyfriend didn't take kindly and told him to keep his hands off. The story goes that Odell and his cousin left the party, one of them got a gun, they both returned to the party, roughed the guy up, and one of them shoved the gun in the guy's mouth. A complaint was filed with the police but when they investigated the witnesses stopped talking so it was dropped.

If these reports were true - and I believe they were - Odell's stupidity alone was reason enough to be suspended another season. Let's hope he's not that stupid again.
