Butterball -- You must be very proud; thanks for posting your daughter's snap, that is the first time that I have seen here.
Maybe Jillian will become the "Shepedoe" and win the gold. But most important is that she is in the game:
"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." Teddy Roosevelt
Paul,You and your wife should be most proud,of course this is really what sport is about ! Thank goodness your daughter has been born into your family.AS a past Special Education teacher I have a great appreciation for seeing this...THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING !!
Please make sure Jillian gets wind of not only how proud her parents are, but also how kind the comments made here have been.
Something like this makes me appreciate even more my concept on sports. I overheard a conversation between my stepmother and her daughter this morning. Her daughter was planning on speaking with her son's lacrosse coach because he is only getting 7 minutes a game. I immediately tried explaining that if the kid has a problem, he needs to speak to the coach. If mommy goes running to the coach then that 7 minutes will drop to two. The fact is, he's participating. You don't pay the money so he can play more than anyone else. You put up that cash so he can put that jersey on.
p.s. - Jillian is a beautiful little girl and looks just like you!
She's a darling. I'm a big supporter of special olympics and I'm happy about the pub it's getting because of your work and, more importantly, Jillian's commitment.
When you look into the face of your child, you can see God sparkling in their eyes. That couldn't be more true than with Jillian. God bless her and you.
She has never backed down from a challenge...from the scream you wrote about in your book when the nurse pricked her with a needle, thus, clearing out her lungs, to working hard in school, to soccer, swimming. dance team, mentoring and a million other things. She embodies what life is about and has a family who love and support her with all that they have.
Loved the column Paul. Made sure the whole family read it. Also makes us realize while deer eating a house may be a minor nuissance that is all it is a monor nuissance. Keep living large Jillian.
