random dunner thoughts

Maybe the Reds can trade him to the Nationals for Kearns and Lopez.

People have compared him to Klu. Nope. Klu's best 4 years, 1953-56, he averaged 40-plus HRs, 115 rbi... also 40Ks a year and a BA no lower than .302...Klu is who Dunn could have been.

Name last good-defense Reds LF, win fabulous prizes. Compared to Kal Daniels and Kevin Mitchell, Dunn is Cesar Geronimo.

How can a stud prep QB who signed to play at Texas have such a mediocre arm?

I think it was Jim Lefebvre who told Dunner to pull the ball all the time... Dunn had been an all-fields guy coming up.

In the offseason, I said half-jokingly to W.Krivsky that instead of seeking pitching and D, he should acquire 7 more Dunns... think of what a blast we'd have at GABP. Literally.

I wish I could make 10.5 mil a year doing what he does.

Trading Pena for Arroyo was a serious shift in philosophy? What? That was a no-brainer not a philosophical shift. The real issue is how much better are the Reds without everyone's Honky-Tonk Honky Hero Freel running the team out of inngings.

Dunn may be afraid of ground balls and a nightmare on balls hit into the corner of the GAB, but his arm is not mediocre. It's average or slightly above average strength-wise. There's enough bad stuff about him that you don't need to make up stuff.

Reds record in Dunn's starts 2001-present:

398-451 (.469 winning %)

Reds record 2001-present when Dunn doesn't start:

67-118 (.362 winning %)

Dunn's a big target - interesting who we make the scapegoat.

The definition of mediocre is average.

I'd be happy to get rid of him just so I don't have to hear "Strike three and he's struck out 100 times on the season and it's only Jun 24th."

Kearns and Lopez sure have been impressive... not.

"I wish I could make 10.5 mil a year doing what he does. "

I wish I could get paid Eric Milton money to do what he does... Heck I would even settle for Gary Majewski money.

Everyone wants to blame Dunn for this team doing bad, but hes not the only overpaid slugger on this team who has poor defense and hasn't hit with runners in scoring position this year. The other overpaid slugger will probably end up getting hurt like he has most of the time hes been here.

I loved the wiki reference in your latest column. That was priceless.

I agree, it is probably time to quit harping on Dunn. He is a good player, but no super stud. And I don't think anyone can say that the lineup would be better off without him.
That being said, pitching is certainly the problem. Especially middle relief, which has only been a relief for the opposing teams. And why does Arroyo get a free pass, he has been terrible (2-7, 5 ERA)
So, wake up and smell the coffee, Dunn is not the problem... pitching (or lack of) is.

Dude, be happy you get paid what you do for the job that you do -- I promise you Dunn is a better Left-fielder than you are Columnist.

It's not close.

I can't believe all the people defending Dunn. He's pathetic.

The Dunner's been tearin it up since the Reds put him on the block. Do you think he's anxious to get outta her and get to a contender?

A few months ago some folks were clamoring that the reason we look beyond Ryan Freel's off the field screw-ups is because of his race more than his work ethic (compared to the Bengals).

This is a perfectly good example of why that is not true. Despite the fact that he's white (sarcasm) Cincinnatians generally don't hold Dunn in high-regard because he does, at least, appear lazy and non chalant. The opposite of Freel.

Why is everyone in love with a should be back up outfielder like Freel. So he hustles, Big deal. He wouldn't start for any other team. Get rid of Dunn? Get rid of Freel. Norris Hopper makes him look like a chump

What are the chances the Reds could trade for a starting pitcher who can average as many strike-outs per year as Dunn?

We need pitching, and if Dunn can bring us some of quality, then trade him. Ironic that since he's been put up for a trade that his bat gained newfound life.
