back from heaven

Short attention span's guide to everything:
If you've never been to the western NC mountains, go. Just got back from 3 days there. Hiking, boating, fishing, wandering. Asheville, best little city nobody goes to. On second thought, keep going to Myrtle Beach.

Stop ripping Narron. He's had 2 owners and 3 GMs. Krivsky, bless him, marches players in and out like it's Open Mic Night. There is something to be said for stability and players knowing their roles and a manager who doesnt have to work in playing time for the newest new guy every other day. Besides, few thought the Reds would be in the hunt this late.

Few thought the NL would be drop-dead awful, either. But that's another story.

Keep Carson on the bench until everyone is satisfied he's ready. You're talking about a game. You should be talking about a potential Hall of Fame career. If it takes 4 games and a bye week to get him back, so be it.

Move Griffey from 3rd to 6th and from center to right. This isn't genius, but it would take some, um, courage. Don't hold your breath.

David Pollack to me, on baseball: "You enjoy watching paint dry? I went to a Reds game when the Braves were here. Met John Smoltz, stayed an inning and a half. I have ADD. Baseball makes me squirm.''

Sean Salisbury of ESPN thinks the Bengals will be the surprise flop of the year. I think the defense will be the surprise, and it won't flop.

The radio was polling fans whether they liked college football or the NFL. To me, it's not even an issue. If you like pomp, circumstance and shirtless undergrads watching blowouts, you like college. If you prefer football at its best, you like the NFL. Live big. On Sundays.

It actually makes me happy that Salisbury predicted the Bengals to flop, he is usually wrong. And speaking of flops, lets take a look at how he did in the NFL, an All-American from USC turned to crummy NFL QB. I can't wait until we dump Sean.

Leave Griffey alone, he is still a good centerfielder and his bat is heating up.

Pollack rip on baseball, lol. Actually he is a pretty good ballplayer himself.

Amen, Jim. Why is Marvin trying to rush Palmer anyway? And why did he throw him under the bus by telling the media/public that he's healthy and ready to go, and it's just up to Palmer now. Thus, putting the onus on Palmer and implying he's a bit of a wuss if he doesn't play right now. Doesn't Marvin realize he owes 95% of his success to this man?

"stop ripping Narron" ????

sorry Paul - comes with the territory.... If Narron managed the Yankees, could you imagine asking New York fans to stop ripping him after he walks a guy to push the tying run to 3rd base? Plus, he just can't stick to the line-up that makes the most sense. He also has a fascination with the .180 batting Jason Larue that none of us can figure out. He's spineless, and at best an average MLB Manager.

Jim--(sorry, Doc, you are stuck with it now)

Agree with the post about Marvin's handling of the Carson thing. In all honesty, Marvin has had a very disappointing off season in terms of handling the crime spree (knowing that he is limited by the collective bargaining agreement in what he can do), the Palmer situation, and some other obviou double-standard things--putting up with Sam Adam's bulimia, not getting Willie singed up, etc.

In many ways these off-season, off-field things are more challenging than actually managing the season and I am hopefull that once we are 8-9 games into it, no one, including me, will even remember saying this, but, at this point in time, the bloom is off the rose a little.

The mystery surrounding Griffey remains unsolved.Krivsky correctly assesed the Reds as being weak up the middle, i.e., catching, pitching, midfielders and centerfield. He has has made major strides to correct these things other than centerfield. Watching Griffey fail to run out ground balls should give him a good read on what to do with a 'team player'.

RE: Griffey and Potential Reds Off Season moves. The Reds do not need another .250 batter with 25-30 HR a season. His bat is not that important any more. He is not even in the top 10 CF in baseball anymore. As much as it pains me to say, he is not the best CF on his team (See Ryan Freel and Farney). Please let me play arm chair GM for a moment. Trade Griffey to ATL (to be closer to Mom and Dad) for a couple of pitching prospects and let Bobby Cox tell him to play RF. he has the guts to do so. Go out and sign Vernon Wells for a sure fire 40 HR a year on GABP. Put Freel in CF and leave him alone. I would love to see what he can do a full year as an every day player. Could be a possible gold glover. I used to not like Freel, but he has proven he can provide the spark a team like Cincinnati needs to win a game.
