typically positive Doc post

The Big Donkey Adam Dunn is hitting .340 in his last 28 games, with 24 rbi... he's 10 for his last 20 with RISP... he still plays baseball with a football player's instincts (nice baserunning last night), but he also seems to be trying to take the ball the other way and shorten his stroke when the count's against him... that's promising... faithful readers of this thing and my enquirer stuff know i'm not a big Dunn guy... but lately, he shows signs of being the player his skills suggest he can be. At least at the plate. Which is one fearsome hitter. You go, Donkey Man...

Dunn goes through cycles of hitting well and then slumping. Typically he will hit well for about a month (like now and the first month of the season), then he looks at the stats and thinks 'why do I have more singles than homers' and 'how am I going to break that stikeout record' and 'I should lead the league in homers' and starts hacking away again.

I am not trying to hate on Dunn, I just think he needs to work a little harder on his batting. Dunn has a great eye, but when he is behind in the count he hacks too much.

Paul - good article on the Bengals today. I agree, it's time to move on.

Sports readers don't want to read about that stuff. That's why we read the sports page, and not A-1. We want to know the inside on Carson, the rookies, etc. How will the new NFL rules affect Chad's routines? What's Dennis Weathersby up to these days? How's Big Sam looking in the middle.

I'm not saying the incidents aren't worth reporting. But report it and move on to sports. I think the Enquirer, your employer, has been particularly obsessed with these issues over the last few months.

Paul,
I don't know if you learn of such things, but it looks as though the Indianapolis Star picked up your Thursday column on "enough on character." I thought you might be interested. I know the Enquirer and Star are both Gannett papers. I have to go to the Indystar online to find out anything on sports in Indiana. I am a hick who hales from hicks. Live big, bigger than yesterday.
