old guy rock

I'm watching Chicago on the Today Show. Thought No. 1: Them? No. 2: Why? The world's biggest rock and roll cliche is "Color My World''... the 2nd-biggest is slow-dancing to "Color My World''... evidently, these guys are putting out new music. Great. What's the set list? "Friday in the Park?'' "Color my Viagra"? "If You Leave Me Now (I Won't Have Anyone to Play Bridge With)'' ?

The great groups of youth do what all self-respecting rock groups are supposed to do: Get rich, get stoned, go to rehab, live shameless, hedonistic lives, break things and drop dead. Not Chicago. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? Not these geezers. They still think it's 1972.

Live big and get me the J. Geils Band.

Chicago was so huge when I was in college, they will never wear out for me, Paul. So was B,S and T... Sad moment: Blood Sweat and Tears playing the All Saints summer festival in Kenwood a few years ago... For free... When Chicago is reduced to playing church festivals, I'm still there.

Saw Grandmaster Flash play at the Santa Monica Pier once. He led off with "Rapper's Delight", did some song no one heard of, then finished it off with another "Rapper's Delight"

Doc:

You speak too fast: Chicago's lead singer, Terry Kath, is lying in Forest Lawn, Glendale, I believe of an OD.

A very perceptive comment by the Chicago transplant. When 18 holes consume five hours, golf loses most of its allure. I once played a decent game, but no longer play at all owing to physical disability. I hope that you lodged a diplomatically phrased and delivered complaint at the Blue Ash pro shop. I understood the marching orders there to be to speed up play. Why the knuckleheads in front of you did not allow you to play through is just plain bad manners. I believe you are correct: Cincinnati has some nice public courses. They are a treasure squandered by unpardonably slow play. Live big.

Hey Doc:
High school junior here. For my AP English class summer assignment, I'm supposed to read 6 articles by some journalist (we had 3 choices: you, Rick Reiley, and someone else I forgot about).
I've read probably a hundred of your articles before-even meeting you once at a student journalist conference, but after looking at them in the light of a work of English literature (which took some getting used to), I've come to fully appreciate just what a great writer you are. You're the best at what you do, keep it up and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.
