Worth Rooting For
JB Lyric of the Day: "Then they're off to catch a stripper, with their eyes glued to her --, but I don't think that I would ever let 'em cut on me.''
Guess the tune, win a D. Baker toothpick.
Kent Mercker came back to baseball because, at 40, he figured he was too young to be spending his days packing his kids' school lunches. Also, because he missed The Guyz. They all miss The Guyz, and the surreal world of pro baseball, in which grown men are paid stupendous amounts of swag to spend hours in a clubhouse wearing compression shorts. And oh yes, perform a few hours a night.
Mercker estimates pitchers work hard 25 minutes a day down here. That's it. He said he worked harder being Mr. Mom. No wonder he wanted to come back.
Regardless, if he has anything left, maybe he makes the team as a lefty specialist. Maybe the Reds will eat Stanton's money. Mercker says he feels better now than before he blew his rotator cuff some 18 months ago. We'll see. Meantime, best of luck to one of the better guys down here.

I would like to see Mercker make it. Krivsky always seems to have to have a 40+ year old LH for some reason (Hammond, Cormier, Stanton).
I still think he should sign David Wells for a coney eating and beer drinking contest with Mike Stanton.
Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes...can't wait for the concert this year.
Hey Paul,
I like the way you keep the pressure on the Reds and Bengals to not field mediocre teams. Keep it up! Its a shame we couldn't bring it on home during Junior's tenure.
One question, are you a Cincy native? Not sure who else would quote Jimmy Buffet so often....I still can't believe the guys sells out five shows a year here. Or is it the warm weather in florida inspiring you to quote the Cheesy one in Paradise?

An ex-pat living in Chicago
PS: How's Edinson V. Looking?
Miss You So Badly...Jimmy Buffett
Is Jimmy really worth seeing. I don't know any of his music (other than obviously margaritaville -wich was played 18 times a day on warm 98 when i worked retail). would he be worth seeing even if i dont know any of his songs. maybe i am just a youngster but i havent heard enough to see the hype. any cd or song recomendations for a newb?
Hope Mercker makes it. It will be nice to have a lefty. Hope he doesnt play anything like stanton.
ANON 11:54,
The coney/beer contest is a fantastic idea. I am in full support of that idea. I will throw in 5 bucks for that. If we can get everybody to do it i am sure they will agree (el oh el)
