Cool movie deal

I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to TV and movies, so I happened to notice the deal on movies at Newport on the Levee: This Saturday, the 23rd, you can see all 5 Best Picture nominees for $30... seen all of them but Juno, would put my cash on No Country for Old Men... at least that was my favorite, though D.D. Lewis in There Will Be Blood absolutely chewed scenes, start to finish..

anyway, if you have nothing better to do...

BTW, my boy Chip Rosecrans loaned me the 1st season of the HBO series The Wire, out on DVD... routinely fabulous. Joe Bob says check it out.

The Wire is a fantastic series, one to be savored. The first season starts off great. From the opening scene it sounds more like a play than a TV series, which to me is a good thing. The best literature, movies, and even TV shows are the ones that help us better understand the world around us by holding up a mirror to society as it is (think All in the Family or NYPD Blue). The Wire falls squarely in this category. I'd take TV like that over the escapist "24" any day of the week.

Glad you are coming around to The Wire. Awesome series, I'm just getting around to finishing the first season myself. I'm just happy I have another few seasons to catch up on.

Dexter is another great series. The plot of the show is pretty ridiculous but very good. I finished the first season this weekend and loved it. Can't wait for the second season to come out.

Andy Pettittes apology...

You buy it?

I caught it on sportscenter (which I can hardly stomach anymore) and tend to buy the sincerity of it. He didn't have to do it. Not a fan of his but he seems to have "manned up" pretty good. I'm sure his "people" suggested it, but it came off well I thought. Makes me wonder what would have happened if Clemens did the same thing a month ago...Or if Rose did many years ago...? Curious as to your thoughts. Thanks

Paul, I've got a Joe Blanton baseball card.

I hear he's pretty valuable.

Think the movie house will swap for a free admission?

:>)

....Juno is a must see - on a side note, the soundtrack is a must have on anyone's iPod.

I thought 'No Country' was a great film. Best Cohen Bros. flick since 'Blood Simple'.

ed, better than Fargo? I loved Blood Simple, a relatively obscure classic that everyone should rent... and I believed The Dude from Lebowski to be one of the great characters in movie history... but it's very hard to beat Steve Buscemi in Fargo, don't you think?

yeah I agree about Dexter I just caught it on CBS this past sunday I loved it.

I also love breaking bad on AMC.

He was kinda funny lookin'. I agree. His character (and where he ended up) was hilarious. Movies like Fargo, Lebowksi, and the Ladykillers all had a dark, yet tongue firmly planted in cheek humor to them. 'No Country' is very different. The story is relentless. You feel drained when you leave the theater. It's not done for laughs at all.
