He's Watching

Jimmy Buffett lyric of the day: "Spinning around in circles/Living it day to day/And maybe 24 hours or 60 good years/It's really not that long a stay.''

Guess the tune, win Chris Sabo's Escort.

Jay Bruce was in the outfield the other day, making throws D. Baker considered lacking. "You're not getting quality work in now,'' manager told Big Thing. "You havent been around long enough to give the effort you're giving. You need to get better every time you step on the field.''

Bronson Arroyo is living on his 55-foot, 2-bedroom boat down here. Compared to Junior Griffey's 120-foot vessel, Arroyo says his is a dinghy.

Is there any one pitcher more important to the Reds potential this year than the guy who starts today? Is M. Belisle coming into his own, or destined for long relief? Answers begin in about an hour.

"Cowboy in the Jungle." But keep the Escort. Strangely, I drove an Escort in high school, and the nickname given to me by my baseball teammates was Sabo. But it wasn't because of the ride though. It was because I sported those always-fashionable Rec Specs rather than contacts or simply something that didn't make me look like I was working for Jacques Cousteau.

Baker laying down the law on the youngsters is a good sign.

I'd put old Bronson Arroyo in the same bucket as Matt Belisle. For a guy who has been considered a lock at the #2 spot, Arroyo needs to pitch like one in order for the Reds to have success.

Does the Escort come with a pair of vintage rec specs?

Yes, good to hear Baker isn't being lax on rookies and is in control despite his laid-back style.

Bronson and Griffey both need to retire on those boats. Overated.
Maybe they can form the next Hootie and the Blowfish?

Hopes resting on Matt Belisle...if only we'd traded Baseball America Top 100 prospects for Blanton...and this fabulous pitching line from today's game vs. Milwaukee:

2 innings
8 hits
6 earned runs

Still better than Milton I guess.

It's like I always say... nothing predicts a guy's regular season like his first 2 innings of spring training.

"It's like I always say... nothing predicts a guy's regular season like his first 2 innings of spring training."

And yet, your sarcasm notwithstanding, your post seems to indicate that this first start for Belisle would be indicative of the year he is going to have.

Blanton could've thrown 2 scoreless innnings with 6 Ks and you're still looking at a 4+ ERA in a pitcher's ballpark. Translates very well to GABP. Ex-A's pitchers are tearing it up all over the league. Blanton is a stud.

I'll be impressed w/ Baker when he walks out onto the field and tells Griffey, "your not working hard enough. Your skills are not what they used to be, and we can't afford to have you anything but the best that you can be. Jay Bruce is over there watching you and you have to show him the way it's supposed to be done."

When Baker does that, he will own this team, and nothing but good things are on the way.
