Bengals: Better?

Free agency is almost never a way to get better quickly in the NFL. Teams just don't have enough money to buy lots of top-tier talent and now, the trend is toward signing your own, anyway. But at the moment, it's fair to wonder about the Bengals. They might use Brian Simmons' money to keep Kenny Watson, Reggie Kelly and Kevin Kaesviharn, which is OK. But how have they improved? They spend most of their available change on keeping Smith and Geathers: How have they improved? If they somehow signed Joey Porter (they won't) to replace Simmons, they exchange a solid citizen for a loose cannon. Better? Eric Steinbach is gone. Better? September is a long way off, but the team's moves lately suggest that standing pat is the best way to the postseason. We'll see.

The bloom is off of Marvin Lewis' rose. This is NOT a championship caliber organization and this off-season proves it--AGAIN.

Time and again, we've heard the morons in this organization pat themselves on the back for the "turnaround." Craziness. We've seen three .500 seasons and one aberration of a year where we went to the playoffs. Carson Palmer's injury in that one playoff game (like Kenyon Martin's years ago for UC) makes every fan have an excuse. We STILL lose that game with Carson.

Why? There is no accountability. There is no control.

Marvin Lewis was a fine assistant. He's not a good head coach.

$8.6 million for Justin Smith? He must be the highest paid non pro bowl player in the league. How can an 8-8, non-playoff team, with one winning season in 17 years always be near the salary cap? How can a team like the Pats be able to sign O. Thomas while the Bengals have no chance? Is it the GM?

"Eric Steinbach is gone. Better? "

Yes, now Carson Palmer wont have to worry about whether or not Eric Steinbach can hold his block. People want to blame Kimo von Oelhoffen for Carson Palmers injury, but it was Eric Steinbach who couldnt hold his block.

To the 1st poster:

Yes of course Eric Steinbach is the only person who's ever given up a sack in his career.

Bungals fans are brainwashed and will excuse anything they do at this point.

It's truly pathetic to see.

As Doc says, how have they gotten better? I would say they've gotten worse and less experienced, even after the draft.

BIG BLACK BOOT

The GREAT THING about cynics/negative pain in the asses like Paul and the rest of the MEDIA HACKS on sports talk radio like Mccallister,The Angry girls and the like. The Bengals will be a MUCH BETTER TEAM NEXT YEAR and the hacks i mentioned will be nowhere to be found. These same HACKS have been on the negative side of the Bengals and Marvin lewis from DAY 1 and still cant get the fans to see their NEGATIVE AND CYNICAL SIDE. Hey Paul and the rest of you MEDIA HACKS: the Bengals have a SEASON TICKET WAITING LIST. We know good football. And we know what a AXE TO GRIND media hacks when we know it. Get off of Marvin's back, we believe he knows more about what he is doing more than you know about the Bengals. We see beettter than we hear. and all we are hearing is a bunch of NEGATIVE CYNICAL CRAP. MARVIN FOREVER.....THE MEDIA NEVER

Hmm.

Does anyone else get the impression that this team was built for 2006/7 and not 2007/8, given the cap situation and exodous of free agents?

Ahoy there, Matie. Have another cup of grog on Captain Steibach's vessel.

Better? Less one irresponsible goof (albeit a minor player among star goofs like Henry and Thurmond).

"you guys are joking right? Do you really think the Bungles are better with out Steinbach?
that's ignorant."

Steinbachs biggest asset is being able to play multiple positions. Have fun watching him get overpowered by bigger defensive linemen.
