So what?

NBA'er Tim Hardaway said in a radio interview that he "hates'' gays... I don't know what the host said next. If it'd been me, I'd have said, "Yeah, Tim, but really, who cares?'' I don't ask Nelson Mandela what he thinks of the designated hitter. If I met Bill Gates, I wouldn't seek his opinion on Chris Henry.

We've been down this road before, on the way to Rocker-ville, through the suburbs of Barkley. John Rocker had a bad subway ride; Charles said he hated white people. And so on. Point is, if you play games for a living, talk about what you know. Or at least, what the public knows you for. Your stunted opinions on matters of social importance are best left unsaid. It's like Jane Fonda talking about the Vietnam War, or Tim Robbins lecturing on the evils of Republicans. Shut up and play.

Jay-

Where's your outrage that Toby Keith shut up and sing?

Oh wait, you only want to hear what you agree with.

I get it now.

Since they were talking about a former NBA player that has admitted he's gay, I think Hardaway's opinion is important. Archaic and homophobic, but important. Who better to explain the feeling among players about gays in the NBA than a former player, since no current player is likely to speak up. Hardaway is surely not the only current or former NBA player to feel this way and it goes a long way to explaining why gays in pro sports dont come out of the closet. If you want to say we should't talk about the subject at all, thats one thing, but if we talk about it, I think Hardaway's opinion matters.

Agree with him or not, I just find it refreshing that someone chose to speak his mind honestly and not have to appear to be politically correct. Although, I'm sure the 1,800 apologoies he's going to have to make now will counter that.

The never ending cycle of human hatred. I think all points are salient regarding said phenomenon. I believe that we all basically hate the ugliness within ourselves. The questions is, how do you reconcile that self-hatred?

Apologies accepted...

And nope...it's not the best I've got...just what you deserved...

(And by the way, the plural of "do" is not "do's" as you put it...it's "dos"...you did, however, write "don'ts" correctly...I was waiting for "dont's")

Sorry to have to put you in check.

I see both sides. So what? is very a propos for any pop culture vitriolic debate. Can you say politically correct one more time? I feel like I'm in Dr. Walker's Philo 101, having a debate. But, it's not the big hitters like Sartre, it's Mr. Hardaway, someone who probably reads Car & Driver, watches Cribs. I saw once in SI how he was a man about town, always on his cell making business moves.

I think he should forego his career as an aspiring business mogul and tour the country for the ACLU with Boy George. They can converge upon all Rest Stops, educating the general public on the AIDS epidemic. I'll be over here, reading Baseball America and seeing if I won blackjack on my terrible coffee purchase.
