sports talk

Thanks to all who called/listened to me on 700 tuesday night... radio is entirely different from column-writing...one's active, the other's passive, one's doing, the other's thinking... it gave me a greater appreciation for those who do it full time... it ain't as easy as they make it sound... but I liked working without a net for a change, and I don't think I said anything incriminating or incredibly stupid... if you heard it and have a critique, I'd appreciate it... Live big, Imus...

I know this is not related to the topic, but I wanted to Thank You for the story you wrote on Barbaro...It was a nice piece...I am a huge horse racing fan and this story became mainstream, I want to thank you for not taking shots at the game, like Pat Forde, he knows almost nothing and was acting like he's an expert, which he is not...

Your story was the best I have read and I have read a bunch on them...

Paul, last night I wished one could DVR radio. I got in my car on my way to work and I heard you start up your show at 6:00 and I was so pleasantly surprised. I immediately wanted to call in sick to hear you talk with Marty about this year's Reds. Also, the comment you made about Mark Cunnette and how special his blog is when he gets a little personal applies to you also. The story about your daughter a week ago touched me, and I would have loved to call in and tell you that. Alas, I have to feed my family. I hope you had fun because I'm sure there are loyal fans who enjoyed hearing you in that medium.

Matt

I think you are pretty good on the radio. I'd love to hear more of you on Sports Talk.

You are sort of like Bill Cunningham, the voice of the common sports fan. Without all the craziness though that Cunningham brings.

I know you are busy with writing and your family, but is there any chance you'll be doing more Sports radio? Gracias , have a great day!

Paul, you have shown the ability to "think" and "do" at the same time, which most of the "alledged" radio talent in this market cannot.

Many broadcast professionals left the business in the late 90's for other careers when deregulation hit.

The lack of competition turned radio into a low-paying parttime career.

Tom Gamble works two other jobs. Skinner works two. Willie, Dusty Rhodes and on and on....Even the new Chief Meteorologist at Channel 19 works parttime as the PA man at hockey games. Imagine Tony Sands doing that.

In a world where whining and screaming at listeners seems to be the game plan, your three hours on the air was a pleasant relief.

don't always agree with you ... most of the time i do ... have always thought you should be on the air more...especially if it keeps seg off the air...not trying to be mean to seg but if you can't talk one should not be on the radio...always good to have a fellow guinness fan spread the word ...

WFAN, NYC is a nice listen, good standard. It's the first full time all sports format, began in the 80's, does better in revenue than any other station of its type. Mike & The Mad Dog- 1-6:30 daily, Steve Somers funny Jewish guy, good takes...on the whole FAN is headier than our locals, better interviews, better scope.

Rome: frat house stuff, funny for requisite two weeks. McAllister, prepared and informed, but frought with cheesiness. The whole "24", rating of news babes "guy talk" is probably a necessary evil in this small market. Furman's interviews are great, but he wants to shock jock everyone.

The shouting match mentality of Clearchannel is myopic. After we hear about who catered their meal, who their orthopedic doc is, who the Sales Manager is at the Cadillac dealership, the Clearchannel Monopoly Jocks big time & shout down any caller with perspective. The whole system lends itself to propaganda.

Skinner knows his stuff but is one dimensional. Get out a little fella, maybe read a book. Gamble, where to start. Pic, gone for a reason.

Anyway, ending this rant because Cincinnati is a fish bowl and pointing the gun in the barrel is too easy!

PLEASE DO NOT emulate Bill Cunningham (or any of the other WLW dullards) Their insipid act is SO stale. They are so in love with the sound of their own voices that theyb have come to stand for nothing. I didn't hear you the other night, but hope you brought a fresh wind.

I can tell you why Pic is not on the radio, at least in part: he cannot pronounce names correctly. During UC-Louisville, the Cards' Juan Pa-LAH-cios came out Pa-LAY-cios. I guess I should pronounce Pic's name PIE-coro.

Hey ANON 8:28.

How about everytime UC player Tim Crowell touched the ball, his name was pronounced differently by Piecoro.

It was Crowl, Crawl, Crall and a couple of other variations.
I though UC had picked up several new players.

Dear ANON 8:44

You're absolutely right. UC could've used those new players the other night. :)

What an great show! it was informative, intelligent and entertaining - all without any public humiliation for the callers. What a concept. Paul, if you had your own regularly scheduled show - I'd be right there.
