little marcus

I'd love to see a local athlete do a public service announcement on the need for proper screening when it comes to finding foster parents for kids. I don't know of any local jocks raised in that environment.Maybe you do. We need somebody to say something on behalf of Marcus Fiesel. Live big. Hug your kids.

Paul, I doub seriously that you will find an athlete that cares.

Paul,

I think there are many athletes who care, many of whom play for the Bengals and willingly sacrifice their Tuesday off days to help in the community. A good one to start with is Madieu Williams. Your colleague Mark Curnutte's article on Madieu and Mike Williams was of Pulitzer quality. How about Willie Anderson, Levi Jones, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Carson Palmer, and others too numerous to name?
You see, I simply decline to buy into the nihilism of the previous poster. Many pro athletes are self-absorbed to a fault, but many, many others like Boomer Esiason are not. Whether or not they have experience with foster care is not especially germane to the unspeakable tragedy of Marcus Fiesel.

It's times like now that having someone like Sean Casey is nice. Sure he hit into a lot of double plays and was slower than a 96 year old grandmother, but he could be giving the Reds leadership they so desperately need and he could be the warm fuzzy this town needs after the Marcus disaster.

Exactly right. Leyland is now saying that Casey is the Tiger most needed for the stretch run, the one player Detroit can least afford to lose to injury.

A little surprised at this post, Doc. PSA's are for the "public." Proper screening for foster parents is the job of state and local governments. They've learned something from the tragic death of Marcus Feisel. A PSA to tell the public what? That the screening agencies that work for them ought to do a better job? No.

Don't bash "non-caring athletes" with that post for something that they shouldn't be doing anyway.

Unless, of course, you're bashing Big Donkey--which I wholeheartedly agree with :-)

Living big not the right answer with this obesity pandemic.
