hocking hills

Amazing. Thanks to all who recommended it. Only problem was, we didnt have enough time to do all we wanted. Hiked Old Man's Cave and Conkle's Hollow. Few things in life are better than you expect; this was one... if I had a swimming hole at my cabin like the one beneath the falls at Old Man, I'd never leave... and upper rim trail at Conkle's was spectacular... if you didnt know the gorge was there, you'd never find it... 2 nights at the cabin in Adama County, where the temps have to be at least 10 degrees cooler than here... fire pit, a million stars, Marty and Brantley... Keystone Light, naturally... back Thursday to continue working on a book w/ J. Bench... Friday, 18 at Elks Run... back on the radio Monday... thanks again to all who posted suggestions...

It's almost like you're not in Ohio when you're there.

You missed ASH CAVE ... and that's a big deal. Go again!

Indeed, Hocking Hills is one of our favorite family getaways. Perfection.

Hey Doc, why has no one in the media written or talked about the Reds taking their radio rights in-house and taking the sales away from WLW? That is a major sports business story and the revenues could have a major impact on the free agent recruitment this off-season. Give us some story baby.

I know this wasn't a Bengals subject but it was the most recent and I want Doc' to ring in.
Label me concerned. God bless the Bengals, and I hope they have a great year. BUT...they made hardly any changes among the front seven except for Ed Hartwell and dumping Sam Adams fat butt who I think is still "running" to get off the field from the last defensive subsitution in '06. I have big hopes for Ahmad Brooks too, but he is yet another not-new-but-cross-your-fingers-for-this-year piece of the puzzle. I really like guys like Peko dating back to last year, but the thing is: "solid" 30-something d-linemen(obviously not Peko) don't sail you deep into the playoffs. The effective defenses have 2 or 3 monster-studs in "the seven".
As far as offense goes: Defensive coordinators will be scheming to take away Chad and TJ and make us beat them with others. Who is that going to be? Quincy Wilson? ooh scary. Stanley Wilson? God love Rudi but I think they'd love to see 3 yards in a cloud of dust 35 times to account for the bulk of our assault. Sorry to be ringing the Amish Town Bell here and I hope I'm way off.

Hey, BK Radio... I said before the Lions game this team was no better than last year...since, they've lost Irons... and Willie A., bless him, is showing his age... do they really want to go into the opener v. Ravens w/2 backup tackles? Do you think Chad and TJ are going to be open much when opponents can double-team both of them? Do you trust 2 rookie CBs and Deltha O'Neal? What the Bengals have in their favor is an easier schedule, probably, and hopefully a new sense of purpose, uncluttered by overconfidence and off-field junk. And of course, C. Palmer... we'll find out how great he is this year...he's going to be needed more than ever.

You had me until Keystone Light.

Redoing Willie Anderson's contract a year ago was a dumb move. Good-natured, but dumb.

Doc you've GOT to find a new beer. Keystone Light is worse than anything coming out of greater Pittsburgh, and that's saying something.

And no, the Bengals will not take a step backward, despite the loss of Irons. Quincy Wilson just needs a chance, just like a bunch of their receivers, like Tab Perry and Reggie McNeal. You talk about going into the Ravens game without the bookend tackles ... First off, nothing is set in stone. A lot of veterans just don't want to waste their time in preseason camp when it's time that could be used to continue to rest old injuries. But let's assume they're out. Fine. Has everyone forgotten that how well Whitworth played at LT a year ago, and the fact that Kooistra has been with the program longer than any lineman other than Anderson. And Stacy Andrews is playing for a contract. If there is one area this team has slowly built quality depth, the O-Line is it.

I say let's get through more than one preseason game before we start making rash judgments on how this season is going to turn out.

Hey, Sam... are we ready for rash judgments yet?

Per your last post, Doc...the great thing I like about your writing is that you hate to employ dripping sarcasm, and you hate to be right. Me too.

You wrote a long time ago that you wrestled in high school...did your teammates mash your face in out of sheer anger at your uppity, I'm simply smarter than you attitude? I would have, but me being on any wrestling team would have been suicide...I was (literally) the 98 pound weakling geek in high school.

Doc, to be honest I don't quite know what to take from that game. The offense can't replace Henry with anyone on the current roster, but the LT/RT situation isn't as dire as a lot of people think. I'm still more concerned with the young secondary and inconsistent pass rush from the DL ... That being said Doc, you know the routine. We'll know after the first half this week whether or not this team has legitimate issues, rather than nagging injuries that need to heal.
