3-dots welcomes tony bruno

A week trying to listen to sports talk radio in Tampa makes you appreciate what we have here. The all-sports station uses the national guy Tony Bruno 9-noon. Bruno was in the Tampa area all week. For Bruno, sports began and ended with the Hooters babe sitting next to him. He did what I though was impossible: Manage to talk about nothing, every day, every time I turned him on. Same w/the self-styled "chicks'' in the afternoon... conference basketball tournaments busting out all over Friday at 5. They decided to talk about people who annoy them. That was unintentionally ironic, for some of us...

David Ross' evaluation to me of Homer Bailey last Thursday proved prophetic: Ross said Bailey still had lots to learn about setting up hitters and understanding what major league hitters would be looking for on various counts...become a pitcher, in other words, not just a kid with great stuff... I still love Bailey's attitude and think he'll be up sooner than later...but the way he's been knocked around in the last week justifies Wayne Krivsky's handling of him...

Xavier drops to an 11 or 12 now, right? This year, is a 12 beating a 5 in the first round even that much of an upset? We looked at George Mason last year as a pleasant aberration; it could happen again this year, and no one should be surprised. Parity is here to stay and with the right matchups, XU could be playing in the Sweet 16...

And what if K-State is the team that knocks Xavier off the bubble and into the NIT?

Want a sleeper? How 'bout Winthrop? Lost in OT at Wisconsin and by 7 to North Carolina, on a neutral floor...

Sorry, still don't buy the Bengals spin re free agency, namely that they spent this year's money last year, to lock up Willie Anderson, Levi Jones and Bobbie Williams... the fact remains, free agency is one tool to fill obvious needs, and the Bengals have ignored it. Especially if they lose Kevin Kaesviharn, their most underrated player. As long as they refuse to get even a little creative with the cap, the Bengals will likely never be as good as they should be....

Griffey's injury has prevented the Reds from evaluating his CF skills this spring. Which means he'll be in center on Opening Day, because nobody, still, is willing to take him on. It's surprising, the deference offered a guy who most team insiders agree would help the club best playing RF...

Anyone seen the new animated gladiator movie "300"? I could use a review...

Doc,

Looks like you are practicing your art for the new gig at WLW.

*step 1 - figure out what opinion will be directly contradictory to what is widely known to be true, then espouse that opinion whether you believe it or not - just for ratings.
*step 2 - ??????
*step 3 - PROFIT!!!!!

XU in the NIT? XU down to an 11 or 12? Have you been living under a rock for the last month? Good luck with your WLW gig - seems as if you've been learning at the knee of Furman.

yes, it's suprising the deference offered a 37 yr old OF who has played more than 2/3 of a season just once in in the past 6 years, hit over 30 hr's once in the past 6 years, had over 75 rbi's once in the past 6 years. well, maybe not surprising with this organization. maybe pathetic is a better word.

maybe someday this team will prioritize winning over stroking jr. and keeping him happy.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You don't build teams through free agency, you do it through the draft.

An anonymous three-dot...

Junior is a talented player who, although not an all-star, still scares opposing teams and makes the entire lineup better because of the way pitchers think about his presence in that lineup. Adam Dunn knows this...

The Bengals are hopelessly mediocre and the fans have been bamboozled by ownership...they hired a fine, well-spoken, articulate ASSISTANT coach who never served as a head coach ANYWHERE...WHY doesn't anyone point this out? Should this franchise have gotten the best proven NFL winner available based on their dismal decade? Marvin Lewis was a PR stunt. They will not win a Super Bowl with him as head coach and people who think otherwise are WRONG...The Bengals don't care to win a Super Bowl...

Bob Huggins has done an OUTSTANDING job at K-State...10 wins in that conference is the best that school has ever done...they haven't been to the tournament since 1996...they played Kansas tough and outscored them in the 2nd half...they did this all without Bill Walker...they beat Texas Tech like it was their job...Bob Knight was impressed...this town should never forget Huggins because he's a top 10 coach in America...he motivates players and is smart...Cronin will NEVER match his accomplishments and UC is entering a 10 year drought from NCAA play...Doc is wrong about his departure being "mutual" because Huggs needed to be loved and wasn't, so he decided to leave...Huggs may not be in the NCAA today, but BOY DO I WISH MY BELOVED BEARCATS WERE A BUBBLE TEAM TODAY!!!!

Doc...if Huggs is in the tournament, THAT MUST BE YOUR COLUMN TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!

Whew...

What's going on with the Enquirer website? All the "post a comment" options on stories about UC sports are gone. You can still comment on the Reds, Bengals, Muskies, etc....

Looks a little strange to me.

Also--a "UC" story about Georgetown winning the Big East tourney? What does this have to do with UC? Another oddity IMO...

Love the job Huggins has done at K-State. They played the Jayhawks all the way down to the wire--could have won it. Nice job.

Is the NCAA ever going to comment on the sex tape investigation? Or is that just a UC "internal matter". The public would really like to know what the heck happened there--and not from UC sources. An independent investigation should be undertaken to find out the details regarding this incident.

UC is supposed to be "squeaky clean" now--are they? Has Nancy done her job? Or was it a bunch of high-minded talk with no substance...

These are the things we would REALLY like to hear about!

Just Sayin'!

Hey Paul,
Love your work. Kaesvaharn may be underrated but he still isn't a great player. Solid safety but hardly crucial in the grand sceme.
Also he is 30 now-- they age fast. Look at Tory James.

The "animated gladiator movie '300'" is neither animated nor about gladiotors.

It is however very good.
