football betting

Now I know why Schlichter's in the stir. Oddsmakers are so often so accurate, it's scary. The last line I saw on UC-Ohio State was 29 1/2. I'd have bet my house the Bearcats would have covered: Tressel doesnt like running it up on his former assistants; the Bucks were ripe for a letdown, in between Texas and Penn State; and UC isn't drop-dead awful... at halftime, had you taken the points, you were spending your money; after 3 quarters, you were counting it. At the end, you were turning over the deed to your house. Bucks cover, on the nose. Amazing.

To those again complaining I was too hard on UC: This can work 1 of 2 ways. I can treat them like the big-time program they aspire to be, and hold them to that standard. Or I can shrug and believe like lots of people around here that they belong in the MAC. I don't think they want to be patronized and covered perpetually like little brother. That's why I don't join the chorus of folks thinking a 30-point loss is acceptable, because the Bearcats played well for a half.

Great stories the last 2 days in the New York Times, about Louisville's football resurgence and the exploitation of high school kids playing football on national TV. Cards turned it around quickly by hiring a charismatic, offense-minded coach, John L. Smith, and keeping the best high school players in K-Y at home. UC is going to lose its share of local kids to the Big 10... but no reason to let a Shaun Alexander or the Wynn kid escape to Alabama and Florida. As for high school kids playing on ESPN: Once they've done that, how do they find joy in simply competing on a Friday night in front of a few thousand people? And does a bunch of kids from southern California really need to be flying to Ohio for 1 football game? Where does it end?

Bengals over Brownies, 27-13. Live big.

PD you are dead on about the Bearcats. If they want to be considered a BCS team they need to be able to play like one. All MAC games should be gimmee's and Pitt games at home need to be as well. They need to be competitive on the road against major BCS team's. Until that happens fans are not going to come out no matter how much begging the head coach does.

But if Louisville can do it than so can UC. A big time coach is needed who can win over recruits and start getting some W's!

Or you can write articles about the Bearcats like the Columbus Dispatch did. No you don't have to be patronizing but you also don't have to be malicious.

Was the headline your idea? In South Bend this morning, are they writing, "There is Michigan, and then there is Notre Dame"? Did they write "There is #1 OSU, and then there is Texas" last week?

You actually found it in your heart to write a few good comments about the Bearcats. But you just have to get in some poor attempts at humor that we have read in many of your articles.

UC fans would love to see the team hang around for the full game. But UC fans also think about the situation at hand. We are tired of average football. We want to cheer for a better team. But we cheer because we are UC fans first and foremost, and it hurts us to read some of the nonsense that is written about this program in their hometown papers, especially from the Enquirer. And I don't want to hear from the local media yet again that it's not their job to be cheerleaders for UC. No, it's not. But it's also not your job to tear them down at any opportunity.

I am going to cancel my subscription to the Enquirer as I am really tired of the negative reporting of the UC football program. Thanks to the internet I can read much more positive articles about UC in the paper of the opposing team.

ucbearcatfan needs to chill out!

Doc is right-on when it comes to the perpetually 6-5, poulan weed eater bowl aspiring, bearcats. ucbearcatfan confuses "biting commentary" and "maliciousness." the enquirer pays Doc for commentary--not cheerleading. doc's job is to provoke our lame-brains in an area of entertainment: sports. his thought provoking wit is part of the entertainment of sports!

and even though doc is sometimes completely WRONG (like when you said Mick Cronin had proved his early detractors wrong--he hasn't done squat YET), he's still in the business of provoking our thoughts and sometimes our rage. at that, he's one of the best around and cincinnati oughta be thrilled to have him. contrary to what ucbearcatfan does, i'm MORE inclined to keep reading when doc says something i disagree with because that's part of the ENTERTAINMENT!!

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

Deshaun Wynn wanted to play at Florida since he was in gradeschool. If he hadn' gone there, he would've gone to OSU. UC was never in the picture

The only time UC went toe to toe with the big boys and kept a big-time local kid was Gino Guidugli (notre dame) and one could argue that he hurt his chances to play professionally by staying home.
