read it and weep, trash-writers

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06166/698372-66.stm

Several people forwarded me this story from the pittsburgh paper and asked what I thought. I thought, "This doctor is right on.'' People who take time to write insane and anonymous junk like the stuff in this story deserve nothing but ridicule. A bad thing about this form of communication is, it allows snivelers to write whatever they please, without repercussion. You don't need a brain, fully formed or otherwise. You just need a laptop. It doesnt have to be accurate or fair or remotely compassionate. It just has to be. Good for this doc in Pittsburgh.

"Not sure what makes me madder, stupid fans or stupid fans who waste their lives blogging. I hate to disagree with you, but I think the doc is absolutely right. People who waste time in chat rooms, message boards and responding to legit blogs aren't fully developed. Sorry, but thanks very much for writing...Paul"

This was Paul's response via email in regards to the story above. Apparently even Paul doesn't want us to read his blog or respond because by doing so we expose ourselves as not being "fully developed". And while I agree to the extent that those who take cheap shots anonymously behind a computer are nothing more than cowards(keyboard commandos I call them), it seems to me that Mr. Daugherty is quite simply biting the hand that feeds him. Also notice he does not post those comments in the blog as to not offend those who are in a small part responsible for his salary.

Kudos on being a Hypocrite Paul!

What a stupid article. Of course people are going to write trash about Ben, people wrote trash after Carson went down.

And to call Carson's comment about hateing the Steelers childish, that is stupid. What, is he supposed to lie and say that he loves the Steelers.

Once again Paul it's clear that you're a waste of payroll.

It's funny that no one said anything about the steelers laughing at us when Carson went down. When they had the SAME EXACT response that some had when Ben went down. It magically wasn't a big deal then. No whiny, waste-of-life writer from Pittsburgh wrote about how the fans shouldn't laugh at Carson.

I don't feel bad for "Big Ben" at all, and I don't feel bad for the criticism he got either. He's a moron. He deserved it.

Not just when Carson got hurt, but I saw plenty of trashy posts and messages from "steeler fans" when Teddy Bruschi had his stroke and when Tony Dungy's son died. But still, not a word was said from the Pittsburgh media or the "Doctor" then.

By the way, in a seperate article, Dr. Friday suggested the best way for Pittsburgh fans to keep their mental health after a steelers loss was to hope the Penguins win... Sounds like a responsible treatment from a "Doctor". The writer and the "Doctor" are morons for attaching their names to a piece like this, and Paul has lost some points for his response to the e-mail.

Good job, fellas!

Paul,
I hate to disagree with you, but Doc Friday in Steeltown committed an error that no reputable man of science would make: he generalized from an extremely small sample size to Cincinnati as a whole and the brain development of its residents.

People here, says Friday, "do not perspectivize human tragedy." What the hell does that mean? I know a lot about human tragedy and "perspectivize" it quite well, both in my personal life and in the lives of people I love.

Anonymous blogging is the province of cowards. There can be no doubt about it. I sign my name to all blogs or I do not blog.

Truthfully, my father and I have been season ticket holders to the Bengals for thirty-eight seasons. I hate the Pittsburgh Steelers more than anyone I know. I feel the same antipathy toward the Steelers you must have felt about the Cowboys. Where are you now, Keith Gary, self-appointed decapitator of Ken Anderson?

I'm sorry, but the tripe of a Pittsburgh sports writer is entitled to no special deference. I decline to give it such.

OK, a few things: If you read the PG story, you might assume the doctor was speaking with tongue firmly in cheek. At least I did. But again, the unfortunate part of blogging and message-boarding is that too often, the words are overheated and uninformed. And to wish ill on anyone is flat-out asinine. That goes for anyone who does it. A few other points: I don't "delete'' any posts. I prefer smart comments over mindless rants, but I can't control what anyone writes, nor do I want to. But if you're going to post inane comments without putting your name on them, don't be surprised or offended when someone calls you out. Blog on.

I agree with Chip, a writer should know better than to generalize from the opinion of a select few. It would be like you going to the Bengals-Steelers game and afterwards writing an about the people of Pittsburgh. You could write about how everyone in Pittsburgh is a white trash alcoholic.

Also, I find a little irony in the article. The media loves tradegy, they might not like to see someone get hurt, but they love the story lines.

What percentage of a team's fans does a silly message board represent? Maybe 1%-5% at the MOST. Also, how do you know that half of the bad messages are actually from another team's fans trying to make them look bad? C'mon Paul, get in the game.
