All I Want For Christmas...Next Year

It's too late this year... besides, FedEx blew my surprise this year by dropping off a box today with a picture of what was inside. Thanks. So here's what I want under next year's tree... if you're like me and have no life on Xmas Eve, feel free to add your own list... live merry, and thanks for all your help in '07...

1 -- a Bengals GM
2 -- B.Castellini thanking fans for all their support, and saying it was his pleasure to bring them the '08 NL pennant.
3 -- someone to put up my outdoor lights... I am Clark Griswold. How come I always end up with 2 female plugs?
4 -- 1 of those retro tabletop hockey games. Know what I mean? Those things with the knobs that move the men up and down the ice, and the ball bearing puck inside the rubber/plastic doughnut? One of those.
5 -- My man Curran the Golf God to give me that one, sure tip on hitting mid-irons consistently. OK, on hitting anything consistently.
6 -- My 1st hole in one. Have never come close.
7 -- Winnin' Time for M. Cronin, who cares deeply and has suffered much.
8 -- BK announcing he'll be UC football coach emeritus by the time he's done in Clifton.
9 -- My memory. Lately, I remember my keys and forget my car.
10 -- Jobs for The Post guys
11 -- A job for T. Hume, one of the better guys around.
12 -- A backrub for M. Lewis. Also, scouts.
13 -- Time.
14 -- One more "rounding third. . .''
15 -- Less Deion.
16 -- More Cris Collinsworth.
17 -- No Chris Berman. Yabba-dabba-do.
18 -- Chad w/o Rosenhaus.
19 -- Darlene Love's hand in marriage, er, D. Love's autograph.
20 -- Smart posts from you guys.

Number 20 is easy. The others. . .?

Live merry. Hope you get what you want. Or at least what you need.

1. A Bengals GM.

Maybe last Mike Brown had an Ebenezer Scrooge experience from Christmas Past - Christmas Present and Christmas Fugure.

This AM he awakens a new man. He has treated all Bengals fans as if they were Bob Cratchet.

My Wish:

Less Boomer E.

More Chris Collinsworth

Merry Christmas, Doc.

As we have discussed, you already have the things that are important - things that meant EVERYTHING at that time. But THE LIST would be nice. I would even settle for just a few of those listed!

Take care and be merry.

Paul...I concur with Craig. Thanks for keeping us informed, entertained, and sometimes ANGRY (not really) by what you say and write. You are a provocative force in journalism. Keep it up!

GREAT list. I concur on many of those.

Here's mine:

1. NO Deion. (not less, NONE)
2. A 3rd quality starter.
3. MORE quality starts from Arroyo.
4. Less nights at the bars by Arroyo.
5. Less Marvin Lewis chuckles.
6. MORE downtown development.
7. Progress on the Banks.
8. John McCain as President. Or Al Gore. The rest are pretenders not ready for the big job.

It's Christmas...I could have more.

Merry Christmas Cincinnati!

Is there anybody on the Enquirer sports research staff who could compile career win-loss records of current NFL owners? Wondered how Mike Brown's near .300 record compared...It's amazing that he feels like his father's ownership methods are worth copying - they brought no Super Bowl Championships either and only a few playoff seasons...

I hear ya on the hole-in-one, Paul. When I visited my Dad for Thanksgiving we played and a guy in our foursome bagged one. I have never made one and this was the first time I had even seen one. Of course I shook his hand but was it mean of me to be cursing under my breath?

Merry Christmas!

1) Someone has a rational thought in the Bengals camp to NOT resign Justin Smith. Hello?

2) Lewis: you had your chance. Next.

3) Katie takes over and does the right things. Daddy...it's my watch now.

4) Reds bullpen doesn't blow games.
5) One of our promising young pitchers actually has success.
6) UC starts winning basketball games...again.
7) UC Football plays for a BCS.
8) George Grande says "Best DAMN Sports Show".
9) Ross actually hits his weight.
10)Coffey walks in and pitches a 1-2-3 inning.

1. Real fan boycotts of teams that don't seem to be trying, whether lack of effort at administrative, managerial, or team level.

2. Former Sen. George Mitchell as commissioner of baseball.

3. Charitable outreach by leading sports celebrities in Cincy that also does NOT include a publicity camera alongside.

4. Nancy Zimpher to be declared America's most upwardly mobile university administrator.

5. Pro basketball to return to Cincy.

6. The Bengals to change the name of the Ben-Gals. (It's corny beyond belief.)

7. "Hoo-Dey" to die. It's old, tired, dumb, and lame.

8. For anyone on a team with a losing record, automatic forfeiture of ball for any celebration after any play.

9. Entire scouting DEPARTMENT for Bengals.

10. Recording of Hoyt and Nuxall heavenly broadcast team during a rain delay.

1.) Some humility and fan respect from Wayne, Bob, and the Reds front office.

2.) A one way ticket outta town for Ocho Selfish.

3.) No more Gumbel, Deion, and Faulk. Ever again. Please God.

I think these are some pretty smart posts. 9:02 Anon, I LOVE the Xmas simile. I have one wish:

PLAYOFFS - for the Bengals, Reds, and NCAA Football.

Oh yeah, make it two. I want Carson Palmer to be more like Carson Palmer again.

1) a new group of fans that wont fall for the whinny pain in the ass media tricks of "all athletes are against us act".

2)true football fans who know how good of a coach marvin lewis is and will be with alittle help from Mike brown

3) Reds fans who will lay off of ken griffey jr. enough to make me want to start liking baseball again.

4) The hypocrites in the media who wanted to run and ruin barry bonds over steriod treat Roger clemons and other cheats the same way.

5)And finally, i just want all the whinners/haters in the cincinnati to GET A LIFE. You people make me want to throw up.

11:45 >> Excellent! post ... except #5 (pro basketball to return to Cincy). How did that one sneak in?
One of the best things about Cincy is NO PRO BBall!! We should shout it loud & proud.

at 12:38 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

How'd it sneak in? LOL.

It's a memory from my childhood. My dad taking me to the Gardens to watch Lucas and Robertson play for the Royals. It was a great pageant. A good memory.

And now they can zone defend. Maybe pro ball will make a comeback. (I'd still like to see us use the international key.)

1. The Reds winning the pennant
2. The Bengals winning the AFC
3. Ohio State clobbering LSU in the BCS game.

Oh wait, this is reality...

1. The Reds shooting for .500 with a bullpen that doesn't implode on itself during the sixth inning.
2. The Bengals with a front office that realizes good management can and will trickle down onto the playing field. Eventually.
3. Who are we kidding? LSU is going to slaughter the Bucks.

Happy 2008.

(Paul, my dad had one of those table top hockey games from the 1960s, but we sold it or gave it away, I don't remember, when we moved from Cincinnati to Phoenix. That thing was awesome)

Hey Paul, would you do us Josh Katzowitz fans of the UC blog a favor and interview him (again?) before he leaves town?

Maybe the entire Post sports staff could be a program for you.

It'd be nice to hear some opinions about what fewer sports voices in Cincy might mean.

I know you're an Enquirer guy, but this is news. Perhaps you've already done this, and I simply missed the show. If so, then replay it and take a day off. (Tell the boss you have my permission.)

I'd listen to the show if you published it's time on your blog.

Thanks.
