2 jobs and unexpected joy

An unexpected bonus of having 2 full-time jobs, as I have now, is a renewed appreciation for life's pleasures... played golf today w/good friends... had lunch outside at Sky Galley, at Lunken Airport... after golf, smoked a cheap cigar and drank a Keystone on the back deck home... watched the squirrels chase the birds... will watch T. Soprano tonight... all this stuff used to be routine, before I added Sports Talk to my plate. Now, it's all magical, in a way I never understood until 6 weeks ago... for what it's worth...

BTW, nice to see J. Narron get tossed for a change... thought for awhile he was Super Glue-d to the bench... Reds still the Reds, though... 8 home games against bad clubs won't change that... can we puh-leeze see Bailey and Dumatrait up here now? What do they have to lose? More games?

Doc,

I must say that I can completely relate...for several reasons.

Please don't be confused. I am not looking for pity or any kind of sorrow. I would simply like to explain why I understand what your life is like.

Until 5.5 years ago, I had absolutey zero medical issues, was with my friends very regularly, school was going great, was just entering adulthood with everything going great, and then...POOF!!! In the snap of the fingers everything was taken away and things changed...completely.

In December 2001, I found myself lying in a hospital bed after having suddenly gone comatose for 3 weeks because of having developed some kind of seizure disorder. It's not epilepsy, per se, but involves many of the same effects and draw-backs. No longer am I able to drink alcohol or drive (of course not in conjunction with one another), but I have had to adjust to the loss of huge amount of my thinking, rationalizing, and memory skills.

Also, for about 5 years, I was holding down 2 part-time jobs while going to school full-time. One job, now being full-time, keeps me from having any free time to speak with my female acquaitance, see friends, or even just sit at home and watch a ballgame for an evening. Prior to the "change", I was doing not only all of that, but also working during free evenings in the Cincinnati Post sports department as a freelance stringer.

Now am I not only working full-time in the evenings and weekends at just one job, but also squeezing in school full-time during the day. While school takes up my daylight hours and work in the evenings, I must use any of the minimal free time I can find working on schoolwork. That turns my life into one giant full-time event.

All of this means that anytime I am able to enjoy what used to be the most routine of things such as going out for a nice dinner and a movie with my girlfriend, partying for a night with friends, or driving for even just a mile...I think of how those things feel now in contrast to 5 years ago...
