Sopranos or Shield?

TV's two best are back with a passion. Which do you prefer?
Tortured Tony? Or shell-shocked Shane?
Paulie or Mackey?
It says a lot about who you are.
Tony Soprano is obsessed with his own mortality. Vic Mackey seems not to give a damn about his. Or anyone else's.
T's wife Carmela is a pseudo-religious hypocrite and enabler, bashing her husband's nefarious "career'' while partaking heavily in its fruits. Vic's ex has no interest in his ill-gotten swag.

The Sopranos is subtle and layered, even when guys get whacked. Notice all the Godfather references. The Shield is a ballpeen to the temple. One's got brains, the other's sheer testosterone.

Right now, I'm liking The Shield more, because I prefer my TV violence simple and to the point. That doesn't lessen my awe of the writing and acting in The Sopranos, though. It's the best thing I've ever seen on TV, narrowly edging out the epic miniseries Lonesome Dove. But all of us have a little Vic in us. Don't we?

Why do you celebrate two violent, mediocre programs? Do you want to be like Milwaukee?

The Wire is fantastic; puts either of the two Doc posted about to shame.

Entourage got old after the third episode.

Hey Paul, I read the ESPN article you are quoted in and their was some interesting stuff. But your reasoning for condemning Henry and not Hamilton doesn't hold any water.

You forget that Hamilton had a FIVE year journey of Darkness and was able to come out and see the Light.

We have written off Chris Henry in just ONE year.

So how come Henry isn't given the time to realize his mistakes but Hamilton is?

Give Henry a chance to redeem himself also, it took Hamilton five years to redeem himself, why such a short turn around for Henry.

Only six posts...but all good posts. Good conversation. I like Marty and Thom or Jeff. They are refreshing. Marty should care...because we do. We see the krap that passes for Major League defense - an inability to move runners ISP. It would be cool however to hear Marty praise the great plays and timely hitting when they happen.

Hamilton was judged just as harshly in the beginning. Remember he wasn't with the Reds in the beginning. We'll see where Henry is in acouple of years

I love The Sopranos (not to mention Entourage). I agree with Doc, Sopranos is about the best TV series I've ever seen. Weeds is good, Deadwood is good.

Sopranos is amazing. The subtle nuances... some of the actors just blow you away. Janice? Does anybody not hate Janice? Or Tony's Mom? (Now dead, DEITY$ rest her imaginary soul.) Both incredible acting jobs by those respective women.
