a warm 3-dot welcome back to T. Soprano
I'm guessing this isn't news to most of you, but because I'm not exactly Techno Man, it blows me away... watching the Heritage yesterday on the new Hi-definition TV machine. Amazing overhead shots of the harbor at Hilton Head, bald eagles, individual blades of grass on the course... then I go to Red Sox-Angels on Fox, also in hi-def... high panorama shot of Fenway, clear enough to see individual numbers on the scoreboard... anyone with a few (thousand) extra nickels, run don't walk to the store...
Anyone else enjoy the 1st of the Final 8 Sopranos episodes as much as I did? I thought it was among the best ever, and I've seen them all... brooding, tense, darkly funny, plenty of foreshadowing... still, I'm a Shield guy above all... Vic is the best bad good guy in the history of TV... and maybe Forest Whitaker will get the Emmy this season he deserved last season...
Good luck to Imus landing a satellite radio deal...Sirius and XM are merging, money won't flow so freely, plus the union needs fed approval... might be hard to get w/Imus aboard...
and count me among the many who believes the pendulum has swung too far the other way... we will never have free and open communication between the races as long as Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle are OK and Don Imus is not... we were better off 35 years ago, when we could all laugh at Archie Bunker...
Reds need Ross to hit, because the Valentin alternative is no alternative... Cubs stole four bases in four tries off him the othert day, in 4 innings. Yikes...

Glad you are enjoying HD, Doc. I have told many that it is one of the few products that exceeds expectations. It really brings a new dimension to sports viewing on TV - the added details you missed before helps draws you into the action.
I am going to miss "T" when the final show airs. Sopranos has been great to watch over the years. Enjoy a few weeks of great TV while you can - Sopranos and Entourage!
Not sure if you are a fan, but "The Office" is my current favorite show. And I thought last Thursday was one of the best episodes ever...
Paul, I have enjoyed listening to you on the radio. Haven't called in yet, but will when I have some tme.
Just an idea, since I'm sure promo appearances are part of your contract with 700. How about a promo appearance or maybe even live show at Sorrento's when it opens back up. You made it clear how important you thought Willie DeLuca was. Maybe this could be a chance to pay him homage, and a chance for fans like me to buy you a beer and say thanks for good sports journalism.
Just a thought,
Matt
Swung too far from what? A mere 40 years ago when Dave Chappelle and Cris Rock couldn't even sit with you in a public establishment or drink out of the same water fountain? The last time I checked, Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh are still OK, too.
I personally don't believe Imus should have been fired. I don't care for his show, but I sure don't have to listen to it, either. However, if you are going to use Rock and Chappelle race related comedy as the measure of this current "swing to a radical dichotomy," then how do you explain the far more popular radio shows of earnest bigots Rush and Savage?
um..."E"...are you a Democrat, by chance?
Let me get this straight, you bang on Dunn at every turn, yet you trumpet the $9 million they give to Freel? Are you serious? A guy who once got arrested on a drinking binge and told the officers he was unemployed? The same knuckle-head that admits to having an imaginary friend? I'm all for effort, but occasionally you actually need production to.
Flip over the baseball card Doc. Don't be one of the zombies in this town that fall so in love with "hustle" that you ignore talent and production. The Pete Rose-ians in this town that have "loved" the Chris Stynes and the Ryan Freels of the Reds because they "hustle" is getting out of hand.
Last year Freel "produced" 86 runs (Runs + RBI - Home Runs), Dunn 151. The year before, Freel produced 86 runs and Dunn 168. The game is about scoring runs, right?
You kill me. Freel is great for baseball (between arrests of course) and Dunn is horrible. Yeah, you got that right. WRONG.
Hey, KY side, a few things:
Freel's getting 7mil, not 9. (One third of what Dunn makes, bhy the way. Is he 1/3 the player?)
He's their only leadoff hitter.
He gets the most of his ability.
He can play 5 positions.
I ripped Dunn in the past because he didn't get the most from his talent. We kissed and made up in March. Apparently, you missed that part. Dunn for now is a changed player. I have no problem with him.
*Is he 1/3 the player...sure. Heck, maybe even 1/2. :)
*He isn't a leadoff hitter. He is just little and fast. He doesn't work deep into counts. Is he their best leadoff option? Sure, if you play it by the "book." But he isn't a proto-typical lead-off hitter.
* Ah, another great "I'll take hustle over talent" quote. Puke. You'd get the most of your ability too. Should you be playing for the Reds?
* Versatility? Agreed. Makes him a perfect sub on the bench. I think we all agree that is the role he is best suited for.
* Oh, sorry, I didn't realize a magic "we made up column" from Sarasota made everything better. You'll be the first to rip him to shreds if he drops a fly ball (oh, similar to "The Kid" last night). Of course, the mulitple alcohol arrests guy who has imaginary friends gets canonized by you. Awesome. Let's hope Dunn never slips up and gets arrested, I doubt you'd be so lenient.

No.
I agree with E on this one... What a bone head comment to make about how good we were "35 Years Ago." Oh the glory days, when we didn't have to pretend we weren't racist? What Imus did wasn't a one time deal. He has shown a pattern of this behavior. Chris and Dave are doing ok because they are comedians, not newscasters.
I do agree that HD TV is glorious. Watch the TV in the store before buying. Not all models have a great picture!
Paying Freel is awesome. That guy can really hustle. And HD TV is neato.
But, come on, PD...
Let's have a rebuttal on my response to your "pendulum has swung" comments .
" Dunn for now is a changed player. I have no problem with him."
I'm sure he's glad you approve. Geez, the ego!
What's the differnce between Paul D and God?
God doesn't think he's Paul D.
Watched three Reds games in a row and didn't see any change in Dunn , left too many men on base to count , looked like Hell in left . To all you people who say he's not being payed to bunt , you can continue to watch the Cardinals in October . Griffey looked worse , dropped a fly ball ,didn't score from second on a hit in the gap , looks old out there . As long as they continue to spend half their payroll on those two guys , they'll be playing meaningless games in September .
