Paul Daugherty
Paul Daugherty has been an Enquirer sports columnist since 1994 and has been chronicling Cincinnati sports since 1988. He has covered almost every major sporting event in America, as well as five Summer Olympics. Along the way, he has been named one of the country's top-5 sports columnists four times, and Ohio columnist of the year on seven different occasions. Last year, he was voted 2nd-best sports columnist in the country, by the Associated Press Sports Editors.

We ran this in the Sunday Enquirer, but here it is again. Misery loves company. Who'd have ever thought middle relief would ever be important?

Good article. You can tell it is written by someone from the New York Times. There is no way that a writer from the Enquirer would take the time to look up those stats and put together a thoughtful piece about troubles across all of baseball.

Complete games used to be VERY COMMON in MLB....what happened? Why can't starters go 9 innings anymore? Is the vaunted "pitch count" a real thing, or is it just baseball lore. Whatever happened to letting a starter finish a game if he is pitching well? The guy can't throw 3 more innings?

I don't get it...
