observations from the road
I drove to the Masters, 600 miles each way... some things I now think I know:
There is a reason satellite radio is popular. Never heard so many radio preachers in my life.
Masters "patrons'' still make the rest of Fan Nation seem like a prison population. But civility there is taking a hit. People running, talking, leaving trash on the grounds. That never used to happen. Saw a lot of that this week. If Cliff Roberts were still alive, badges would be taken away and people would be executed.
(all you golf-is-not-a-sport heathens out there, please stop snickering, or I'll start making bad NASCAR jokes.)
Asheville is the best kept, small-city secret in America. Especially for those who like the mountains better than the beach. Like me.
If there was no rape in the Duke lacrosse case, how come they canceled the season? The Raleigh paper did a lengthy story Sunday, basically saying all the players were spoiled, preppy dopes who felt entitled to behave any way they pleased. And now, maybe they're innocent. Talk about rushing to judgment.
The only place I can listen to country music is in western NC. Though I'm starting to listen to Brooks and Dunn. If you're a country fan and think I might like something, lemme know what it is. My mind is often open.
I have a week to finish a book on Chad Johnson, so you might not be hearing from me much. Live big.

Live by this simple rule when enjoying country music. Don't listen to anything that was recorded after, say, 1985.
Lookit..Listen to some Rascal Flatts..all us country girls from Ma. love them
Kelby...been to boone...great little town...lots of great places down there...black mountain, saluda, linville... I could write a book
a BOOK on chad johnson??? ha-ha-ha! who's going to read it to him?
According to the DA today, he is proceeding with the trail. The woman had bruising consistent with rape and two of three guys she identified had semen found in the bathroom although it was not on her.
I'm betting that there was a rape.
- agree about nascar. it is every bit not a sport as golf isn't.
- try whiskeytown. from nc. now defunct. the great ryan adams' old band.
- a book on chad johnson??? why? obviously he'll love the attention and thinks he's worthy of a book. but will anyone else think so?
Big and Rich
doc, gotta second the whiskeytown -- the alt-country of whiskeytown, uncle tupelo (and its off-shoots wilco and son volt) and a new favorite of mine, lucero. i'm kinda of with the first guy about regular country -- but the alt-country movement was great.
Kenny Chesney. "Be As You Are" album. You'll love it! Very relaxing.
got all the recommendations, have heard of most... will give them a try... a problem w/being 40-something (one of them, anyway)is the lack of new music that interests you... I'll check this stuff out... who knows, I might even start following nascar
A book on Chad Johnson. That's great. The world's been waiting for a book about another loud-mouthed, over-hyped, self-absorbed, egomaniac NFL wide receiver.
Perhaps you should read the book. You might learn a few things. Unless, of course, you know everything already.
Let me guess. This book will discuss his rough childhood, and all the obstacles he's had to overcome, and how he's really not a bad guy, and how he's such a hard worker, and how his teammates/coaches love him, and everything else he wants us to think about him.
Will be similar to the Terrel Owens, Keyshawn Johnson, and Randy Moss books.
Can't wait.
Don't want to speak for "Anonymous," but didn't Chad Johnson (supposedly) fight with his own players/coaches halftime of the playoff game? Doesn't his coach have to tell him to cool it with the bulletin board trash talk at least a couple times a year? Doesn't he claim to be the greatest WR in the league every week? That would seem to at least put him in the same group as the others.
Good player? Sure. Just a little too loud and proud.
If you want to try some good country/southern rock from a local guy, check out Dallas Moore. Great live show and he has a few cd's.
