tony or vic?

OK. I'm bleary-eyed from reading all the BH rhetoric. Man was a good coach, did a good job here and, all things considered will be remembered as being a positive presence in town. That said, 16 years isn't a lifetime in college basketball coaching; it's 2 lifetimes. Can we just get over it and understand there will be life after Huggs? Didn't AK show us that already? If Mick Cronin is the new coach, he'll do the same. Now, more important stuff:

Which is the better show: The Sopranos or The Shield? I just watched the finale of The Shield on the TiVo. Wow. If there is better acting/writing anywhere on TV, I ain't seen it. Anyone else think right up to the last minute that Vic knew beforehand that Shane blew up Lem? (He didn't.)Do we get an encore next season from Forest Whitaker, who was Emmy-great this year?
The Sopranos is getting a little artsy for me. I always thought it was at its best when the wiseguy camaraderie flowed. Instead, what we're getting now is dream sequences and not enough Paulie. Nothing good can come from not enough Paulie.

Anyway, whom do you like? Vic, Shane and that nerd Dutch? Or Tony, Sil, Paulie and Christopher? Right now, my money's with Vic and the boy scouts he runs with. Maybe I'll write more serious stuff tomorrow. Right now, my eyes are glazing. Live big.

That is just a stupid and arrogant statement, telling people to get over Huggs on the day his hiring by another college is announced. On this day, of all days people, are going to be very vocal of how happy they are that he has another job or pissed at the way he was let go. Of course there will be life after Hugs, but today is not the day to talk about that. Let people vent. Next week tell people to get over it... doing it today is just a flip-cool writer thing to do and arrogant in implying that the feeling of anger resurfacing today is not justified.

PS: the Shield rocks

Paraphrasing Boogie from "Diner". The answer to the question about what is better, "The Shield" or "The Sopranos" is "Arrested Development". It is better than "Seinfeld" or "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Check out the first season on DVD.

I hope Cronin is more like Ed Jucker than Tony Yates (anyone remember them) as far as a UC grad coaching the Bearcats is concerned. 16 years is a very long time in one spot. I wish Huggins well. Kennedy too - I wanted him to get the UC job but he wouldn't be a head coach today if not for the Hug/Zim fiasco of last year.

The SHIELD. HANDS DOWN.

And Vic had no idea Shane was going to do it. But that sandwich, or whatever's left of it, will give him away. When Dutch mentions offhand to Vic that there was a sandwich in the car, Vic will remember that Lem was hungry while on the lam - and that Shane was the only other person who could've got to him (Ronnie was with Vic). Vic and Lem didn't really get along from season 4. So Vic will go 'vic' on Shane.

OH YEAH - good luck AK and Mick Cronin.

to the anonymous poster who quoted Diner: Beautiful. My favorite movie, ever. Steve Gutenberg: "Mathis or Sinatra?'' Rourke: "Presley.'' When I worked at the Cincinnati Post, my buddy Jerry Crasnick and I would kill time on Reds road trips by reciting Diner dialogue. Anyone who hasnt seen this movie, rent it. Now. Live big.

This is Cincnnati! Nancy alienated one generation, minimum. She'll move on when that sinks in.

No one earned a job moreso than Andy, ever. Community, alums, fans everywhere, students, players... all behind him. Proven recruiter, game tested coach. Solid image -- what the "issue" was -- in his courtside demeanor, in his Christian walk. Stigmatized because he remained loyal to a great mentor. What did he need to do, win the NCAA tournament? He was never really considered.

Why pass on AK I'll never understand.

Ivory-towered egocentric elitist educrats and one Cincinnati sports columnist have trouble with the concept of a no brainer.

But at least now my duhgrees got ekwitty!

Agree that the Sopranos is too artsy. "Trying to hard" is the way I describe it. However, Edie Falco's performance in the season opener was great.
