Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes

Two separate interviews given by two national NFL media guys yesterday suggested M. Lewis' authority is being undercut by M. Brown. Believe what you want. It's plausible. But knowing that Lewis is friendly w/both Chris Mortensen and Jay Glazer is instructive. Regardless, nothing ever changes in Mudville. Props, I guess, to Marvin, who fought longer and harder against Bengalization than any of his predecessors since S. Wyche.

Anyone who believes this club is anything but a dysfunctional mess at the moment is seriously deluded. Maybe the entire roster ought to go Ocho Loco on the way things are run down there.

I just feel bad for Carson, he deserves better.

Chad Johnson might be the only sane one out there.

The Cincinnati Fan's relationship to the Bengals is best described as "Extortion victim suffering from Stockholm syndrome."

MikeBrown/Bengals has us by our short hairs, and the average fan screams "hoo-day" from some psychotic transference to the viewpoint of his extortionist.

Or as our resident genius, Paul Daughterty, has so precisely summarized it:

"Bengalization"

Here's a thought I had the other day. Chad says its not about money. He wants to leave because he wants to win, and that's not possible in Cincinnati. Does Chad realize this statement implies that all the other players not demanding trades truly don't care if they win or not? He's directly attacking the franchise but indirectly insulting every member of the team.

If it's all about winning, then other players also wanting to win should be doing the same thing.

I'd like to see Mike Brown very publicly give away all the money Chad forfeits by not showing up. Imagine Mike saying

-"Since Chad did not show up to game 1, we are donating his paycheck to Children's Hospital."
- "Since Chad did not show up to game 2, we are donating his paycheck to the Yellow Ribbon Support Center."
-"Since Chad did not show up to today's game, we are passing out a voucher to each fan in the stadium for a free hot dog and coke."

It's in their budget to not have that money anway. Make it a point to publicly give it away to anybody, as long as its not Chad.

I'm just counting down the years until Mike Brown gives up running the team. I'm only 30, Mike Brown turns 71 this year. Time is on my side I figure.

I agree. I blame Rosenhaus, Brown and Chad in that particular deal but overall I agree with Corey Dillon. Sure, all the Bengal players want to win but if the organization doesn't show a commitment to putting the pieces together, all you're going to get is heartache. Get out while the getting is good...or even fair.
I do wish Rosenhaus gets what he wants - Chad on a team that has no ability to win until after Chad retires. Don't know why Chad wants that though.
When does the NFL step in and tell Mike Brown to change or sell?

Paul,
You went about a week with only posting one blog and then with in the past few days you have posted 12 trillion... I like it!

Ocho, Rosenwhore, Redskins, Draft, Volques, Cueto, Krivsky, Griffey 600, Wesley Snipes gets 3 years in prison... do you ever feel that there is to much good (or bad) stuff to write about?

Keep it up!

Carson Palmer will be MVP (just sayin)

Mike from the best time of year for sports ever (including wesley snipes)

This needs to be the headlines of the Enquirer and on 700 until Mike Brown responds.

The NFL (Goodell) must be as sick of the Mike Brown Bengals as we all are in Cincinnati (except of course, those who are getting a piece of the pie, ala Bedinghaus).

Question: Does anyone go to a Bengals game sober? Why?

This is a cop-out. Everyone wants to blame Mike Brown. Its so easy. Team doesn't perform- gotta be Mike's fault. Locker room falls apart- gotta be Mike's fault. Marvin has had control of this team from day one and hasn't delivered. Hes a bad game coach. Hes a bad motivator. What did he want Mike to do that hasn't been done? When was he over-ruled? Give me an example Jay Glazer? All I know is on gameday Marvin is in charge and hes not getting things right then. Hard to believe he'd have his stuff together behind the scenes if it weren't for Mike. Also- I agree that Marvin seems awful chummy with Chris Mortenson...which makes the fact that Chris broke the chad trade "rumors" (rumor= invented truth) last season all that more troubling. You'd think Marvin would have backed away from Chris at that point- but maybe he was the source. Bottem line - if Marvin has a problem, he should say something. He is such a passive aggressive wuss.

is it a coincidence that since paul brown died, the team has 1 winning season, 0 playoff wins, and has been a disorganized, directionless, hopeless laughingstock? until mike brown dies, nothing will change. mike brown has no business running an nfl organization.

my dad's a doctor and i'm a teacher. if i followed the mike brown way, i guess i should be able to take over as doctor for all my dad's patients when he dies.....even though i have no business doing so. i bet they'd still have better results than the bengals.

Would you please enable dates on your comments? It's very frustrating to try to keep up with many comments without dates. Thank you! Love the blog otherwise.

Whether you agree with his viewpoints or not, be glad this city and it's only newspaper has one reporter who does not mind getting under the skin of anyone. Daugherty actually gives us something to think about and never turns out that same old rah rah bull dung so many writers fall victim to while covering a team.

I guess Marvin is responsible for the one winning season in the last seventeen years record the Bengals have under Mike Brown. Amazing accomplishment.
Let's see...over that time, what is the common thread? Who is hiring the coaches you claim are at fault for not controlling the locker room or motivating the team? Who relies on four scouts to assess hundreds of players every year? Who ultimately decides the draft picks every year?
Who could it be?
Certainly not Marvin Lewis.

Does anyone recall Mike Brown's choice for head coach was Tom Coughlin but Katie wanted Marvin? How would things have worked out if Mike didn't let his daughter override his decisions?

"It's plausible"

It's not plausible, it's business as usual. Anyone who knows anyone in Bengals management knows that. MB lied to former coaches about personnel decisions. If you think he's changed, you might as well invest in the Banks.

Doc
It's a shame. I like Marvin and I think he is a good man. I re-upped my seats because of the respect I have for him. That being said, you can sense that he is beaten down. Marvin deserves better than to just be the designated guy to crawl under the bus.

Anon 10:02 must be a part of 'the family'. Dude, where were you when they passed on New Orleans entire draft for Akili Smith? Akili freakin Smith for ALL of a teams draft picks! THAT'S not Mike Browns fault? I've got a million more examples if you need them, which you shouldn't. Brown deserves Z E R O credit...for anything. I guess you could argue we wouldn't have NFL quality football in this town if it weren't for Browns 'loyalty' to Cincinnati. But I would argue we've never had NFL quality football in this town under Brown.

This team is a soap opera, plain and simple. A train looking for a wreck. Nothing more, nothing less. Brown is the iceburg to our emotional Titanic. I look forward to the fiasco this weekend so I can make fun of the team even more. Folks, it's only going to get worse.

Wow!!

Sorry Paul, unlike everyone else on this thread, I'm not here to commend your pessimism.

I was unaware that I was "seriously deluded". With the exception of one receiver (Henry), I'm looking at virtually the same offense that took the Bengals to the playoffs in 2006.

You've also failed to mention the excruciatingly tough schedule that the AFC North has; no one is running away with this division.

I was just under the assumption that Chad's fate doesn't necessarily determine the destiny for the Bengals.
