Ocho Selfish

It's silly to lay the Monday disaster at the feet of one of the best players on the team. Chad Johnson was hardly the reason the Bengals lost by 3 TDs at home. But it is disappointing, after all these years, to see that Chad has not grown up. What was with the head-holding after he nearly scored? He helped the team with a great effort on that play. Shouldnt that be enough? Not for 85. He didnt score on national TV.

Come on.

Then the end of the 1st half. He and CP get crossed up on a crucial interception. Chad gives it to Carson coming off the field, on the bench and heading off the field at halftime. Had to be at least 5 minutes. ESPN caught it all. Cameraman follows the pair off the field. A. Whitworth tries to block the cameraman's view. Chad keeps jawing.

What's the word here? Unprofessional? Immature? Selfish? Embarrassing? Yes, four times.

Palmer, being Palmer, took all the blame after the game. He deserved none. I wouldnt swear to this, but as the camera zoomed in on the duo as they walked off at halftime, I thought I saw Palmer say, "You f---d up, man.''

That's putting it mildly. Look, I like Chad. I did a book with him. I know how excited he gets when the spotlight shines. Part of his exuberance/frustration occurs when he thinks he should be doing more to help the team win. But you'd think after all this time, he'd channel it in more productive directions than showing up his QB in prime time.

"He didnt score on national TV.

And therefore he did not get to 'celebrate'. And that is his main focus. "Watch me celebrate".

Right on. He epitomizes everything that's wrong with this selfish, immature, delusional team. He and TJ talk each week about how they're better than the other team - even after they lose. They are clueless. Just like Marvin.

at 9:55 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

and don't forget how he was getting all chummy with the opposing team's head coach - in the middle of the damn game!!! a game his team should be fighting for their life to win. the spotlight was simply more important to him. i'm sure belicheck knew what he was doing too. ocho would much rather score 3 tds, get major camera time, and the bengals lose than get 2 catches for 20 yards, no face time, and bengals win. he is one of the most selfish, egotistical athletes i've ever witnessed.

I love Chad! I tell fans from other teams how happy we are to have him. "He's got the entertainment value of a Terell Owens without all the drama and clubhouse discontent." And then he goes on national TV and does this. I love the fact that he's so passionate about the game. When he cried after the Sunday night loss to Jacksonville a few years ago, I swelled with pride. To know that after all those years of having comfortable veterans who were happy to take a pay check, a few lumps, and then a few months off during the Shula/Coslet/Lebeau era, that we finally had players that weren't going to accept losing had me ecstatic! Sometimes he just needs to realize that he could just as easily be in Minnesota catching passes from Kelly Holcomb. Chad is my favorite player, but this is Carson's team. When a team has a franchise QB, the players, coaches, and sometimes even the front office revolve around him. Showing up the franchise QB on National TV does nothing to help himself, the team or anyone else. I hope this was an isolated event and it's over by the time they're in KC.

Yeah. And if Chad had a coach, that coach would presumably try and help Chad "channel" his energy more productively. But as is becoming more clear every Sunday, the Bengals are a leaderless team with no identity other than being perpetually rotten.

Paul -

I have struggled for the last two years trying to accurately describe the problem with this team. They obviously have the talent to be one of the best teams in football and Marvin apparently can conceptually be a great football coach. However when it comes to actually playing the games, I am taken back to the days of Shula, Coslet and LeBeau. Between Chad being Chad, The 40 Million Dollar Levi not playing and talking publicly about it, several players who could contribute suspended or injured I just don't know how much longer this can go on. Something or someone has to change.

at 11:16 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Immediately after the play, ther was a camera shot of Carson running down the field toward Chad pulling of his chin strap and yelling at him BEFORE chad said anything.

He is as much to blame as Chad.

No leadership on this team, not even Willie anymore.

Certainly not Marvin either.

Time for a change.

at 11:43 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Doc- I know you're trying to show that your relationship with Chad does create creat bias in your reporting - so I commend you for that. However, I think you are off base here (and its not just you). Carson was the one who actually called out Chad after that play. They were obviously both upset- as they should have been. Just because Carson took the "high road" and placed the blame on himself- doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't his fault. The damage was done at that point. The heated discussion going into half time had no impact on the game. Using the term "selfish" to describe this team's problem is a ploy and a cop out by Marvin. Selfish is something that shows up in practice, not after the game. They got out-played and out-coached. All the buzz words in the world won't change that. The Bengals are no more or less "selfish" than any other team in the league- but as TJ said- its just something that gets said because people want an simple answer for why they aren't playing very well. To me, Chad is once again one of the bright spots on the team.

at 11:54 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

The problem is it takes a columnist to name names, while the coach continues to scold in vague, nameless generalities, even when he speaks to the team without any media around about selfishness.

Whenever Lewis decides to grow some balls and make players personally responsible for their actions by calling them out maybe this team will move forward.

Maybe.

We are waiting coach. Be a leader.

Paul, couldn't agree more with you regarding Chad. Kudos to you for addressing this topic considering your ties with him. It is past the point where it is humorous. Going back to the HOF jacket and Dawg Pound leap (of stupidity), and now with the blatant unprofessionalism shown last night, I really start to wonder if it is about the team AT ALL with him. Also, about the numerous times the TV cut to Marvin on the sideline last night: he looked LOST. Practically shell-shocked. I believe he's in major trouble with this team, and rightfully so. He enables Chad to do the things he does, both after TD's and on the sideline with Palmer last night. My opinion is he should have hobbled over to Ocho Selfish and defused the incident immediately.

at 12:11 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Honestly, it's probably time to trade Chad. His value is at its highest, he's a distraction to the rest of the team, and history shows that WR's decline fast after 30. Could end up with some defensive help, if Marvin could pick the right players.

at 12:13 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Too much talk. Just go out there and do what you're being paid to do. That's what the Patriots do; play a solid game week after week. And I think our defensive genius coach has something to answer for not building a solid defense in these past five years. Plenty of blame to go around as we head for another 8-8 season.

Yep, I believe it is called "maturity"...
I know you love him, Paul, but his act is wearing thin with me...

God, how I miss the Paul Brown/Vince Lombardi ethic of "Act like you've been there."

I am in the process of reading your book now. My first thought when I heard you wrote the book was, I did not want to know about Chad.
I've changed my mind. I am mid way though. I feel sad reading it. I really am sorry for his childhood. I do understand the nervous energy and the strong desire to play well.. but I believe you said it all.. Chad needs to grow up! Mature.
Last night on pregame Chad was asked what did he have planned for the game that night as celebrating, if he got a touchdown. Chad's comment was something like.. 'this game isn't about me. It is the team that matters.'
I was So Very happy to hear this.
Too bad Chad didn't believe what he said.

at 12:46 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I couldn't agree more about the head-holding. All he wanted was to score so he could do his dance, or whatever it is he planned to do. Chad isn't about the Bengals. Chad is about Chad.

at 1:22 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What was with the head-holding after he nearly scored?

I'll defend him on this point. I thought he was disapointed in himself that he didn't score. He felt like he should have gotten in.

You're right! It's time for Johnson to close his mouth and to open his ears. Grow up! Enough is enough! What I found even more troubling was Justin Smith, the teams 'Franchised" player, wearing a microphone, and while sitting next to these young, impressionable players, questioning why the teams games (stunts) "never seem to work. NEVER!!" If this does not call into question the lack of team leadership, I don't know what does!

Typical Cincinnati sports fans. Cincinnati defense is ranked 30th this year, 30th last year, 28th in 2005, 19th in 2004,28th in 2003. Thats an average defensive finish of 27th in the NFL the last 5 years. And we're talking about Chad and Carson and the offense?

Paul , please, do a story on the facts of the defense compared to the rest of the NFL during the Marvin Lewis tenure. Bill Parcells said it last night. The Bengals have 0 starters in their front 7 obtained in the first 3 rounds of the last 4 drafts. This is a personnel issue, a failure by Marvin/Mike Brown at picking defensive stud players. Thats complicated by his refusal to sign free agents. If you pick poorly on defense and you wont enter the free agent market, where does that leave you? Bengaldom , is where. We have the worst Linebacking corps in football, and that was before the injuries. Did anyone see Lofi Tatupu and Julian Peterson last week? Those are NFL linebackers. WE dont have one linebacker in the top 50 backers in the NFL, didnt last year or any year since Takeo left.
The Reds dont hit enough home runs either.

at 3:08 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Don't be too hard on Marvin. An NFL coaching job is one of the most prestigious jobs in the country. In return for being welll paid, he gets to endure constant meddling from Mike and his clan.
Do you really believe Marvin doesn't know talent and is unable to field a competent defense? In Baltimore, he sure knew what he was doing. Talent wins out.
The Brown family strategy has always been to pay for offense; that's what puts people in the seats.
What's the one constant in the mediocrity of this franchise? Mikeyboy, that's who.

I think you have to be careful when you call someone selfish. Chad is an intense and passionate player who plays to win. When he scores and the team wins, everyone says how hilarious he is. When they don't win, everyone calls him selfish. You have to accept him for who he is all the time.

That is not to say that I think it was right to call out Carson, but I honestly believe that his frustration is born out of a desire to succeed rather than "selfishness."

I have to STRONGLY disagree with some previous posts which claim that Chad is a problem on the Bengals. Chad is an amazing talent who works his butt off and has a burning desire to succeed. If that is "selfish", then maybe the Bengals need a few more "selfish" players.

The problem with the Bengals is that they are undermanned and, I believed, consistently outcoached. I predict a turnaround after the bye when they get some LB's back and the schedule eases a bit.

Cincinnati fans really show their ignorance on these blogs. Paul, how you continue to put with these idiots on this blog and your radio show boggle me. Then again, you're getting paid - so that helps.

Chad is the Adam Dunn of this team. Everything is Chad and Dunn's fault. I used to take pride in knowning that Cincy baseball fans were of the highest IQ. Ha! No longer...their continual degradation of Dunn and now Chad is absolutely ridiculous.

Chad's ego is the reason they are 1-3? Give me a break people. I guess it's Chad's fault for creating a disturbance on the sideline and that affects Shayne from kicking it straight and out of bounds.

I guess it's Chad's fault that he's yelling at Carson on the sideline...meanwhile, Donte Stallworth is slithering up the field and LBs and secondary players can't make the tackles.

Ohh...and since Chad left the locker room and didn't talk...and Carson "man'd up" and took blame...well, it HAS to be Chad's fault.

Cincinnati...grow up and look in the mirror. Stop acting like you live in Cleveland and assigning blame to everyone else. This is a team issue and not Chad.

Everything rises and falls on leadership.

The Bengals General Manager needs to take control of this mess Right NOW!
What's that you say? - THEY DON"T HAVE ONE!?!?!

Never mind - the Brown family lawyers can handle it just fine - it's working, isn't it?

I think Aaron is on the right track. The Terrible Towelhead (Chad) is a very competetive player who does not like to lose. But, you Bengal people are missing the point -- the offense did not lose the game; Marvin Lewis was not outcoached; you guys had NO defense. To me it is amazing that the Bengals were as competetive as they were with only two linebackers in the game. Your defensive signal caller has only been on the team for two weeks. I think Marvin did an excellent job scraping together a makeshift defense. What a bunch of losers you are -- you should be focused on figuring out how to fix the weaknesses on your team, not tearing down one of your few strengths.

Chad is defended for his "passion to win". I believe TJ has every bit as much passion/dedication and he puts up equally good numbers - but he seems to be very much a professional "team player" - someone who makes others around him better.
Paul, you're dead right about Chad.

at 8:47 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with Aaron. This scapegoating of Ocho Cinco is completely wrong. He is not selfish - only flamboyant, passionate and transparent. He wears hs heart on his sleave. So freakin what?! Why does he have to fit some BS stereotype to be considered a good player and asset to the team? Quit crucifying him because you're frustrated that the Bengals are playing poorly.

The worst thing about Chad's behavior is it provides the opportunity for people to ignore the real problems and scapegoat him instead. If Marvin Lewis was a real man/coach, he wouldn't talk about selfishness and try to hide his coaching inadequacies behind the Chad media circus. Lewis is the one who needs to be more mature and less selfish - how about treating the media and public like we are human beings? How about standing up for your players/fans and throwing some tantrums at the referees once in a while instead of intimating that they/we are selfish and/or ignorant?

Lewis drove away Leslie Frazier - the best defensive coordinator we've had since Dick Lebeau. Since then the defense (which wasn't that great) has only gotten worse and worse.

Against the Patriots, it seemd like it took Palmer forever to look Chad's way while he kept trying to force passes to Antonio Chatman. Nice game plan! The first time Chad got targeted was on a blitz audible and he nearly broke it for a score. If I'm the best player and my team won't get me the ball except on a goofy alternate option play, then I make a great play and barely miss getting in the end zone, I'm probably grabbing my head in agony too! Did you notice Chad congratulate TJ after he scored on the 1-yarder? Real selfish (Not!)

Even if you humorless morons are right and Ocho Cinco is the most selfish, immature player in the world, he still could be ten times as angry and put off as he has shown and he would be justified!

Good work Daugherty - you got me talkin (typin)! That is your job moreso than purverying meaningful truth.

I agree, Chad should not have shown up his quarterback on prime time TV. This could have been handled in the locker room, beyond the cameras. Perhaps, this is the reason for Marvin's tongue lashing after the game. I believe that the bye week could not come at a better time. This team needs to regroup, heal its wounds, and come out swinging. The rest of the schedule is not that tough. A 10-6 record is a real possibility; the season is not lost. However, I too, have had enough of Chad's celebrating, at least until they can start winning some games.
Who-Dey....Man!

Paul I now know that is not just me. Do you remember the 1990's feeling of "Here we go again?" It would be in your gut, you tried to say it’s just nerves but you knew what it was. I hate that feeling, but we (the fans) could not shake it. Well I said it last night, and when we played the Brown. “Here we go again.” Seems that this team has no idea of what it takes to win. I can sit here, like you, and Tuesday QB even though Marvin has forgot more about football then I and you will ever know, but I do know one thing. Winning comes from the heart. This team, Chad, Carson, TJ, Justin Smith, Derrick Jackson, go down the list may have heart individually, but as a team there is no heart. What's difference between the Pat's and us? Simple. The Pat’s want a ring, and trophy, not celebrations, not pointing to the sky for some religious identification, not to get their stats so they get a bonus. They know if they get a ring, all the other things will come. I wonder if Marvin finally asked the right question last night that reporters said they heard from the locker room. "Who wants to be here?" I bet 60% of the team does not, I think that they hate the town and think the team is a joke look at TJ’s face in the locker room interview on Bengals.com. While we as fans believe they are the new BENGALS. I have a feeling they (the team ) think they are the still the BUNGLES. Better yet, they believe everyone else is the BUNGLES and they are the only good player on the team. Until they can shake that, we will never be champions. Just chumps. I will keep watching, at least this week they can’t break my heart. Here we go again. Who Dey! LOL

Chad has to stop trying to get all of the attention and Marvin needs to stop it. I defended Chad for the last 3 years to my friends but I now see that they are right about him. He needs to go. I still feel that he had something to do with us losing that game to pittsburg when an argument broke out at half time. I feel he caused the loss. Marvin needs to become a leader or a leaver.

It's hilarious to watch this overrated team implode year in and year out. Chad Johnson is a clown. Nothing more nothing less.
Bozo Cinco represents everything that is wrong with this team.

Who in the hell honestly complains about a player holding his head in disapointment because he didnt score a touchdown? oh thats right, people like Doc and all the other media hacks/ jealous playerhaters who are just looking for something to complain about. I mean really, you cant be serious or looked at seriously if one of your complaints is about a guy being disapointed about not getting in the endzone. This is exactly why people dont respect you or any athletic skill you might have. carson comes off the feild acting like a fool and Chad gets the blame. typical Cincinnati......i wonder if some of these same people are josh hamilton fans/ Oh thats right we like Josh. has Chad EVER been accuse of using drugs? but Chad is the "bad guy/cancer". I hate Cincinnati

I agree with many of the posters. Chad is not the problem on this team, and neither are selfish players. Chad grabbing his helmet in disappointment after not scoring is not a result of pride. It's a result of, "man we are down and if I had just kept my footing we could have scored". The fighting between Carson and Chad is as a result of the overall dismay of the team. Look at them on the sidelines. Half the team has given up. They are frustrated and lost. Their direction and play on the field is a direct reflection of the looks on the coaching staffs faces when you see them on the sidelines. They look lost and confused, and so does the team. The team needs real leadership. Starting from Mike Brown all the way down. Mike said that he likes to give troubled people a second chance, but in that interview he also alluded that they come cheap. Now they are drafting "good guys" from ivy league schools. How 'bout talented players? You pay for what you get, all the way to coaching staffs. It's time for both the Bengals and Reds to put some money into leaders who will lead these teams and keep all of these players moving in the right direction.

at 8:15 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Forget about the "intangibles" being the issue - the reason they lost was their offensive gameplan. TJ was right about the play calling - this offense is geared around their passing game, and they start the game with 3 runs? Never once try to go down field? Force the ball to 3rd and 4th option receivers? Their play calling on offense was tentative, like they were trying not to lose rather than trying to win. Because of that they put the defense in tough spots - only 1 first down in the first 2 possessions. The defense was disorganized, but kept the Bengals in the game - and didn't get the help they needed from the offense. I put this loss on the offensive play calling. This team needs to go agressively after the win - an agressiveness that Chad and TJ have, and the rest of the team needs to follow.

Chad is being Chad. The problem is that Marvin Lewis has allowed Chad to continue to be the selfish Chad. This problem has festered because of Marvin Lewis's inability to deal with adversity!

at 9:11 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

If the Bungles had an O-line that gave CP plenty of time to pick opponents secondaries apart and make big holes for Rudi to drive a bus through, and the defense was middle of the pack in stopping the pass and the run. And the biggest problem we had was Chad's selfishness...we'd have no subproblems at all. Putting the focus on Chad is like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

y'all are stupid to think that chad is selfish. he is one of the hardest working athletes in pro sports today. we should be grateful that someone like that is representing the city of cincinnati. yeah he gets upset but thats the competitive spirit coming out of him. he acted the exact same way in 2005 when the Bengals were in the playoffs. now they're 1-3 and you're looking to point pingers. paul, i suggest you step into the shoes of a pro athlete for one week and see how we're scrutinized for everything we do. i'm not saying people should feel sorry for us, but don't misconstrue the situation just so you can make a couple bucks for your news article. if you wanna talk about selfish, look in the mirror you fool....

What is it about a black athlete with a "personality" that causes the white communiyt and the white media to lose their mind. A previous poster hit it right on the head. Some of the same people complaining about Chad are some of the same people who refer to a former drug abuser as "THE NATURAL". The same people complaining about Chad are the same people who wanted the Reds to resign Ryan Freel despite the fact that Freel is a two=time DUI loser. Can someone please explain the outrage toward Chad as opposed to the love shown by fans and media for two guy who have scrapped the "bottom of the life burrel"? The hypocrisy of the fans and media is this town is enough to make you want to throw up. Now i know why Pete Rose is beloved but Chad is the 'worse human being to ever put on a Bengal uniform. These are some of the same people who wanted to jump all over brandon Philips because his homerun trot was seen as "showboating". Wheres Hal mccoy and C. trent Windbag when you need them? Typical Cincinnati....JOKE

and by the way, to all of you chad haters....WATCH THE FREAKING GAMES! DID YOU SEE HIM CELEBRATING AGAINST THE PATS? He even told Suzy Kolber of ESPN before the game that he wasn't going to celebrate at all because the team was 1-2..he even said "Whats the celebration in being 1-2?"..You guys are a bunch of unathletic chumps that are gonna think you know something about sports and a team game when you know nothing! i guarantee the majority of you haven't played a sport beyond the high school level and the rest have never even played in the high school level. I am not even a bengals fan and I get sick of trashy fans like you thinking that the problem lies in one player. the last time i checked, chad johnson led the NFL in yards for the past few years. he's not TO because you dont see him going to the media ripping on his quarterback. he's not randy moss (with the exception of 4 games this year) going to the media and saying that he'll play when he wants to play. he goes out there every week and busts his tail and DOES HIS JOB! is it his fault that the bengals gave up 51 points to the garbage browns?? is it his fault that the seahawks ran backyard football routes against the bengals defense? is it his fault that the bengals special teams cant stop anyone from getting 40 yards on every play? the numbers don't lie people! his numbers have done nothing but help the bengals! DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THE BENGALS HAVE NO DEFENSE! CHAD IS NOT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE ALL HE DOES IS HIS JOB!!!!

Chad Johnson should be traded. He single handedly lost the Cleveland Game by announcing he was jumping into the dawg pound and then doing it. How disrespectful was that to the Browns. That clearly fired up the Browns. Come into our house and celebrate with our fans. And
He looked like an idiot in the Hall of Fame jacket.
I believe it's time for Ocho Stinko
to move on to NY or Miami.
On another note: the coaching staff also needs a makeover, starting with both coordinators. No discipline, bad game plans and poor play calling all equal losses
They've been getting by on talent
(mostly Carson) for to long. The offensive play calling has been inconsistent for years. Also the offensive line is a joke. How can you expect Carson to be Carson when he's under constant pressure?
But, oh, what a solid offensive line. (In someones dreams)

I think Chad was upset because he didn't score. You know score for the TEAM! Good god Chad is a great player. We have some great players. It seems like Carson & Chad are off the year. Carson & TJ are on. We need to find the on button for Chad as well.

I hope you Bengals fans get your wish and Chad Johnson is traded; that would be a gift to the Steelers. Just take a look at what Owens (Cowboys) and Moss (Pats) are doing after leaving places where the fans trashed them.

"Chad was upset becasue he didn't score".....

That quote speaks volumes.....

Here's a couple of other things that speak volumes......

1) On the interception, right at the point where Chad is supposed to break to the post he reaches out and grabs for the defender. Now his back is to the ball, why do you suppose he tries to grab a defender? I'll tell you, the ball was in the air, he knew he was supposed to be there, he also knew a safety was waiting to pop him after the catch.... Chad knew he screwed up and hung Palmer out to dry....and let Carson "admit" that it was his fault.

2) On the 12 men on the field penalty..... Marvin is standing on the sideline with the official pleading with him....You could see him mouth to the official.... "Why didn't you tell me?" The official shrugged and shook his head....

As I said....

Speaks volumes........

Trade Johnson.....Fire Marvin....

Chad is one of the big reasons I've quit pulling for the Bengals. He's about self glory, first and foremost, then team. I saw how pompous and arrogant he acted at one of the book signings and it matches everything we see on the field. Somebody needs a good helping of humble pie.

And he can deny it all he wants, but he did punch a coach during halftime of the 2005 playoff game...

This is what this garbage about Chad Johnson is like. Earlier this season a New York TImes writer used an entire column to explain that the reason the Yankees would not make the playoffs (and that the Mets would, oops) was because of the "selfishness" of Alex Rodriguez. No mention of the pitching problems, blown leads etc. Now we are expected to believe the following: that a Bengals team that would have made the playoffs last year had they not given up 42 points in a half to San Diego, or missed a short field goal against Pittsburg, a team that would be 3-1 this year had they not given up 45 points to Cleveland after the first quarter or not kicked the ball out of bounds to start Seattle's last drive, is where they are because of the selfishness of one of their most talented players.

Listen up!! The Bengals aren't losing because of what their talented players do. They're not losing because of the way ANYONE plays on offense. They're losing because they don't have ENOUGH talented players to make their defense and special teams competitive. This team has never had a truly dominant defense in it's history, even in the superbowl years. And they haven't yet had a good one under Marvin Lewis. It makes no sense at all to try and lay the failures of the defense at the feet of a player who doesn't even play on that side of the ball. None. So stop it!!

Chad Johnson makes it hard to root for the Bengals.

"The sky is falling, the sky is falling!" Calm down people - injuries decimated this season before it began, and yet we were one play away from winning in Cleveland and Seattle. All the exact same stuff could have went down but if the record was 3-1 nobody would be talking about selfish this or that.

Marvin is using the "selfish" tag to rally his team around each other, and I think it's a very effective way to get people on the same page after a demoralizing loss like this. He didn't name names because he wants the people who think it applies to them to PROVE that it doesn't. This is great leadership, and it's why Marvin should be in charge.

Chad is hardly selfish when he wants to play hard and help his team win. Carson went off on Chad first and they had a heated conversation. But I don't "blame" Carson either -- I'm GLAD they feel comfortable interacting in that way because THAT is how they will get better!

The sky is not falling. The Bengals are a good team that has had some really tough breaks so far this year. Blame the injury bug for the 1-3 record, not individual players. We want and need passes from Carson to Chad for years to come.

You like watching the Bengals on Monday night (even if they lose)? Well, Chad's relentless PR for his team and his city are the reason. THANK YOU CHAD JOHNSON!!!!!

Randy Moss pretty much showed what
a good reciever is all about.
When was the last time, or first time, anyone has seen Johnson catch
a pass such as Moss' first touchdown?
Overrated. Fast, agile. Yeah so
what. Crappy receiver. 3rd best
on the team Henry is twice the reciever and heck so is Housh.

Paul's blog is titled "Ocho Selfish" >> have any of you "defenders" ever played on a team with someone who wears a "Future HOF" jacket during the game?
He calls out his head coach when he says he's going to do "his thing" even tho Marvin won't like it. This is terrible for a "team".
They need to get rid of him - TJ & Henry will be fine.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 2007 Bengals. I mean, all the seats were full, right?

All this Chad bashing is upsurd. The guy works hard 365 days a year to be a reciever that demands double coverage. He is consistently an invauable part of the offense, year after year. The offense is fine.
The Bengals problem is defense. A scout from a random team said that nobody on the Bengals D scared him before the preseason; before the injuries. I have to wonder what has happened to Coach Lewis and his defensive genius. We are simply not fielding an intimidating defense. Nobody is afraid of the Bengals D.
How can two first round picks, a former pro-bowler and a super bowl MVP get exploited so bad in the passing game? Common Sense points to the coaching because the talent is there. You can justify the lack of run defense because of injuries. But there is no justification for why opposing teams aren't petrified of passing agaist us.

More than one Bengal and his fellow teammates are too full of themselves. The future Hall of Fame jacket epitomizes that and the incident the Comedy Club that show Chad's lack of integrity and maturity. It is mostly the fault of the coaching staff. So much great raw talent comes into the NFL and the really good coaching staffs, the ones making the playoffs consistently, can harness that talent. Often those potentialy great players that just can't get it together on their own
move on and reach their potential by well managed teams.

I wish people would remember the days before Marvin Lewis. I have been a faithful Bengal fan since their first year. That pitiful 12 year fun before Marvin got me to the point where I just wished for us to be competitive. Marvin has brought to that point. I am not happy about the current state of the team - but I am not ready to give up the ship. I bet most of the negative comments in this blog come from men who have multiple marriages. Man, just think back to that Tampa Bay game in 2001 and the many just like it. Lets stand by our team and stop acting the way everybody is writing about team and Marvin.

To think that we need to remember days without Marvin is absurd. Here is a men that has not build solid defense now for 5 years, but its ok since seats are full. Here is a men that lets his star receiver do things that are unprofessional, disrespectful and selfish day in and day out. Chad is a cause of our disease that we have called bad team. I dislike the guy, for his self promoting, his selfish dancing even when your team is loosing and lack of respect for his offensive line, his quaterback and his coach. Chad Johnson is not even the best receiver on our team, TJ is better.
Our love dance with Marvin is over, we can't stand for mediocrity any longer. We need to scrutinize our player just like New York, L.A and Boston does. We deserve that much after all the loosing season. Marvin has lost control and his team. We need change. Give him a year, if things don't change, please let Bill Cowher be out there still. Chad you are most overated player ever. Please leave and leave us to fight in harmony and peace. WHO DEY 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
