andy furman

The online headline said "WLW Fires Furman'' and I suppose, technically, WLW did. You have to believe it was a ClearChannel production, however. It better be a corporate deal, lest the, um, Big One open itself to charges of hypocrisy. They love the stuff Furman and Cunningham do. Always have. Not that he needs it, but Furman was goaded into trashing T.J. Houshmandzadeh, the act that got him fired.

Regardless, I never tired of listening to Andy, because I knew the off-air guy, and he was nothing like the schtick-man on it. He's a good father, husband and friend. Lots of radio guys do the Jekyll and Hyde thing. Furman was among the best at it.

I wish him well and hope he can stay in town.

Paul,

What do you mean when you say Furman was goaded into trashing Houshmanzadeh?

Why should I have any sympathy for him? He obviously did not have any sympathy for TJ. If it was part of his job - he obviously knew of the consequences if he went too far. Goading people into confrontations will ultimately bite you in the rear one day. TJ will make lots of money off his image and if you trash his image in public you better be able to prove it.

Furman's job with Clear Channel was simple: Stir the pot with outrageous comments (that he may not even truly believe in)to boost ratings (& therefore revenue) but don't get Clear Channel into legal trouble. Andy walked that tightrope all the time until the TJ fiasco. Maybe the pending sale of Clear Channel had something to do with his firing - no one wants to buy a station that has a specific legal threat to it.

I do not understand the need for the Jeckyll and Hyde approach from radio and some television personalities. Lance, the Two Angry Guys and you, Paul (when filling in) do a great job and seem genuine on the air.

So Paul, you've done your fair share of radio...you ready to take over Lance's 3-6 slot on Homer when he moves to SportsTalk on 700?

Please. Furman was a hack who couldn't get to the lowest common denominator quickly enough in search of ratings. Even in sports, professionals should try to raise the level of debate, not drown it in the sewer.

And geez, there's nothing worse than seeing media types sticking up for their pals.

What's the difference between what Furman said and the bigoted/racist remarks of Lance mcCallister? Wht hasnt 700 wlw fired Cunningham? We all know why these two should be fired but no one is willing to step up to the plate and stand for something. maybe we all like sports and political host who like playing "race card"?

WLW PD Daryl Parks told Furman to "lay it on" TJ over the missed appearance. And, that's the only ammunition Furman needed to go off the deep end. Parks needs to be fired as well.

As for the Furman removal, Mike Brown has his fingerprints all over that one. Remember back in the mid-90's when Brown and Furman clashed over trashing the Bengals. Brown took his broadcast rights to WUBE for a couple of years (remember Pete Arbogast) and cost Jacor/Clear Channel millions.

Furman won that round, but not this time with even more millions at stake. Mike Brown will always hold that leverage when it comes to WLW and how the Bengals are treated by the talk hosts.

The whole Furman thing seems to be a much bigger deal to all of the Media types than to the average sport fan....

Doesn't make a lisk of difference to me. I don't listen to WLW. I stopped turning it on years ago they hired this obnoxious guy who irritated the hell out of me and....Oh yeah!

Ex-radio man hit the nail on the head. Can't believe the WUBE years weren't brought up at all during this. It was obvious that Clear Channel was attempting to protect their broadcast rights.

The worse thing about the whole TJ Hush and Fuhrman fiasco is that now I have to listen to Tom Gamble for my after 6 sports talk fix. I do not get this man whatsoever. What is the appeal? Somebody, anybody tell me his credentials, other than bringing us the chili football classic or being a "professor" at a directional "university". His incessant complaining and his tired stories about his lame experiences in his dull life may be the talk of Highland Heights but to me are simply unnerving! I guess if you're loud and have a strong personality the world is your oyster in this cowtown. I believe there presently is no captivating sports talk host in Cincinnati, it's all just noise these days. Lance is the closest thing out there, the rest are just Northern Kentucky stiffs.

Racist are racist. So if you are a 2006 liberal, you need to look within and realize that America will not be free when socialist. Can you see that the machine is generating Free Speech Crimes? The system might not even be going after the source. "Punk Ass White Boy" or "racist"? Sometimes i feel with overboard Liberalism, you have the blind leading the blind.

Furman was the best thing on WLW. It sucks that he's gone and replaced by inferior hosts. I could have done without some of his unnecessar inflamitory topics, but his sports knowledge was broad and deep. No one knows college basketball like him.
Did you catch Bob Trumpy's cutting remarks? Trumpy always believed only ex-players could have any knowledge of sport's topics. Furman represented the real foundation of all sports - the fans!

Good grief....I was out of town on extended business travel, and returned to find that Andy Furman was canned. Talk about the definition of hypocrisy....on several fronts, including corporate, community, and individual. I heard Andy's rant the night he went off on TJ Houshmanzadeh, and to interpret it all as anything more than ratings-generating schtick is a sad, sad joke on those that were offended in any way, at any level. And frankly, Cutler, McAllister, Gamble, Dennison, et. al. are simply are way, way, way, way behind Furman in terms of generating an interesting dialogue for a radio sports talk show. Simply no comparison. I've listened to Sports Talk on WLW for 22 years. No more....Boring Talk is the true word for it now.

Just about every personality on 700 WLW tends to act like a douche now and then. Mike McConnell the "Earth Tsar" know it all (a total douche). Willie, who I think is the best if them all, but loves "W" like a 16 year old girl dating the high school quarterback (part time douche). Scott Sloan just plain sucks (one way douche). Then Gary Burbank who owns a BBQ joint with crappy food and has too much time on hands writing all those stupid skits(enema). Furball is just the little whipping boy for 700 (he is a jouche - a wholesale douche). He acted like am idiot but Its all about entertainment. Houshmanzadeh should get over it. I Hope Hanukkah brings you peace and prosperity Andy. We will miss your obnoxious ranting.

If you think Ron Gamble is the answer is long term you are sadly wrong, form a loyal daily listern. Skinner and Gamble are great together and it is obviously to get two talk show host for the price for one.

Why is it okay for a black person to accuse a white person of being a racist (even if the accusation is in no way based on fact), but not the other way around? Just wondering.
